More 50th R9s . . .

They weren't just going to make 500 R9s this year. Those first 500 were the official 50th anniversary editions.

The rest are just R9s made in the year 2009. They don't come with COA stating they're 50ths, just regular COAs.

People/retailers are calling them 50th anniversary models - simple marketing.

But it's not lying. Gibson makes who knows how many R9s every year...probably around 2,000.

Well, of the 2,000 that will be made in 2009, 500 of them are the official anniversary editions that come with a certificate stating so. The only difference between a 2009 50th and a regular 2009 is the 50th is finished in only Heritage Cherry or Darkburst, it has a high gloss finish, the COA booklet is gold (not black) and the actual COA said 1 of 500.

They did the same thing in 2008. The 50th R8 was essentially an R9 with an aged treatment on it. They still made tons of regular R8s within the same year. No different now.

It's lying AreNine when you're advertising them as "50th Anniversary 1959 Les Pauls" instead of just R9 Reissues.

They shouldn't even be the same price but they'll probably fly off the racks too. Especially if they're marketed as "50th Anniversary 1959 Les Pauls" and sadly some perhaps most folks won't know the difference.

Gibson, the company, is not marketing them as 50th anniversary editions. it's the retailers.

Price - I believe these are $300 cheaper than the official 50ths. That's because these are VOS, not high gloss.

If you think about it, any R9 made in 2009 is technically an anniversary model because it's the 50th year.

The first 500 were the official anniversary models.
