jalexquijano Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I am trying to balance the neck pickup in my 2004 Les Paul Standard and still keep getting a very bassy and muddy sound. I want the pickup to sound less bassy but keeping the neck character. Any advise on how to proceed correctly.
surfpup Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Have you posted this already? How low is the neck pickup?
Tim Plains Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Isn't this like the fourth thread? jalexquijano, if it's too muddy, lower the pickup. What about playing around with the amp's settings?
BlackHawk233 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I can tell you nothing unless you provide your gear info... I could just well be your amp with bass to high. I was inspired by another thread lower down to adjust my pickups today... I can say, Lowering my neck made it just so warm and nice to listen to. Bridge is pretty Thrash Metal sounding. On Middle its Master of puppets... What I can say is, Go from ground zero (lower pickup all the way) and go up until you get the sweet spot. Then of course you have to change the bridge height too if you want them to sound fluent.

Should I get a distorted sound when playing over the hills and far away intro using the clean channel?
Dr. Rock Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Does the pick-up have a metal cover (nickel or gold)? Metal covers is know for reducing the high frequencys. It's why your have too much bass and less definition. Removing the cover significantly reduce muddiness and is not too difficult.
AXE® Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Still sounding too bassy' date=' the amp i am plugged in is a Roland Microcube 2 watt amp[/quote'] There is your main problem.
