Sent my LP Custom 68 Reissue back to the Custom Shop today!!!

I sent my Les Paul Custom 68 Reissue back to the Gibson Custom

Shop today! She has some serious rattle and buzz issues on the

Low open E string as well as, the A & D open strings! This seems

to come from the nut and first or second frets.

Funny thing is, I have had her a little over a year, but this year

the neck started acting crazy; not holding truss adjustment,

and the buzzing, rattle problems I have on the open Low e string.

There also appears to be a slight hump in the neck where the neck

meets the body, and a slight twist in between the hump and nut.

Anyway, in the middle of the neck, but this all seems to be only on

the bass side of the neck?

The guitar is beautiful though, she has a lovely tone! What do you all

think Gibson will do for me? Will they repair my baby, or send me

out a new one?

I was going to say that they should replace it, but you'd probably end up right back where you started from, or maybe even worse.

Sounds to me that either the neck is twisted, or the truss rod was improperly set at the factory, or even the store from which you purchased it. If the TR is too tight, it will pull the neck too far back (back bow), resulting in a hump at the neck joint if left for a long period of time. The nut may also be the problem, or at least part of it. Everyone and their grandpa knows how shoddy GIbson is when it comes to nut work...amongs other things.

My best guess is that they will try to "fix" it. Probably by leveling the FB, adjusting the TR to straiten out the neck, and hopefully fixing the nut.

Good luck, and I hope you get your baby back in a timely manner![thumbup]

+1

Neck problems seem to be part of the deal with Gibson ever since they started saving money on materials by lowering their standards on the quality and straightness of the neck graining. Looking at the natural finished necks in any store you're most likely to see some angled grain lines, sometimes twisting right off the neck surface between the heel and the headstock.

Here's hoping Gibson does right by you. [lol]

LEAVE THE DAMNED TRUSS ROD ALONE!

Severe, I know, but I want to get the point across.

[biggrin][cool][biggrin]

I fear that your guitar may have neck issues caused by - NOT in need of - truss rod manipulations.

I've heard the same story again and again, pisses me off.

If the guitar was right when you bought it, the truss rod likely needed no adjustment whatsoever.

Have you changed the strings?

Moving the height thumbwheels under the bridge even a little screws everything up.

Changed string gauge?

That might warrant a truss rod adjustment.

These are the things to eliminate before you decide Gibson sold you a lemon.

It's possible, but do you really believe that's the case?

[blink][crying][blink]

Good luck with it, whatever it takes.

Hey Frehley76' date='

You are right, the new 68 is better!!! She's beautiful my friend.

What kind of problems were you having with the original?

How long did it take for Gibson to build you a new one?[/quote']

The neck twisted, it also humped where it joined at the body. It was basically unplayable.

They kept it for about a month or two and gave me some replacement options, I opted for a new build since I had a custom color to begin with.

It took them about 3 months to build me a new one. Depending on your color if they end up replacing it they may have one in stock.
