If you've got an expired trial or pirated copy... and you are hooked to the internet, the application (MSWhatever) will contact the mother ship and cut you off in a Redmond, Washington minute. You can thank Al Gore for inventing the internet. You can thank Bill Gates for exploiting it to it's full potential. Once it's on a computer... there are no secrets.
