zombywoof
The serial number should be on the neck block. I am thinking though, that your guitar is not a 1949 C&W. The main reason is that neither the SJN or C&W appear in Gibson's catalog until the mid-1950s. The number of frets and shape of the pickguard also point to a guitar made no earlier than 1955. Value - a little research will show you the range. But a mid-1950s Gibson acoustic will be worth quite a bit less than one made in the late 1940s. brians356
If it says "Country Western Model" on the label it is no older than 1956. If it is an original natural-top SJ (not a refinished sunburst) it is no older than 1954. Unless it is something Gibson let out the back door. Or something else. fp
That is not a 49, it's a 55 at the earliest, most likely though later than 55.
mike wallace
Hi, About your old Country Western--looks like a '56 to '62 model, and if it is in good shape, I would be interested in buying it. I like the figure of $1500 at this point, given the economy, risk factors, and so forth. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Mike Wallace
