...Wildkat did growl

I've got 5 Epi's and one Gibby. They are all stock and I have no plans to modify any of them.

The Epi pickups are not as hot as those in the Gibby LP Studio, which I don't mind. The Gibby has a "Right In Your Face Sound". When I realized that my Joe Pass was a fine blues axe, I put all of my tools away and concentrated on playing not modifying.

I used my Sheraton II on a Dixie gig yesterday. Their banjo player was out of town so I was asked to fill. It sounded great. There were a lot of photographs take at the gig, and I know that the Sheraton will be in many of them.

When you get your Wildcat, play it for a month. You have to get to know it. Throwing a bunch of parts at it may be short sighted.

I bought my Gibby because it had knob appeal. I've had more problems with it an all of my "stock" Epi's combined.

Hey guys

Wildkat arrived safe and sound yesterday. Spent half of my off hours getting to know it, and the other half swilling beer and eating buffalo wings nextdoor (I live next to a bar...mixed blessing!)

The wildkat does INDEED growl. I think that with that, and my SG Classic, I might be able to rule the world. Certainly our own acre anyway.

Pros and cons: The guitar sings or screams very nicely. Epi's Dog ear P90's sound nearly identical to the soapbarP90's on my SG. Just as responsive, but somewhat different-which is good. I suspect its the semi hollow and metal PU covers vs the slab and plastic that make the difference. The Wildkat will NICELY cover all the roots rock type stuff, and the SG the heavier, British stlye blues/hard rock that I like. What a duo those 2 are for me now!

More pros- the looks of the axe, as we are all aware are (insert favorite profanity here) hot! Damn it's a looker. The Bigsby (actually says Bigsby rather than Epiphone like other pics I've seen) is nice -but will be nicer (one of the only cons) with a more tremolo friendly bridge and nut. I have a very heavy right hand...I'm not using it like a Strat-I know the difference...however, I do use it excessivly...do you think I run the risk of blindness, wanking that thing too much? Anyway, my playing stlye gaurantees tuning issues. The Grovers also don't behave as smoothly as other Grovers I have...one is kinda hard to turn in fact. The lubrication inside might not be worked all the way through the machine...if that's a problem down the line, I have another set to slap on, np.

The set up is true and right, though a bit high for me. No worries there, easily remedied and to be expected. Everything works as intended, and other than the bridge and nut and possibly tuning machines-this axe needs nothing to be able to run w/ my Gibsons. I am SUPER pleased about that. This is a lot of guitar for little bread...possibly the best buy I have ever made in an "economy" guitar. Won't take even another 100.00 to bring it up to snuff! So with guitar and case and planned mods, I'm in for around 700.00 for an axe I will brag about to all who will listen...I will focus it on my Gibson playing buddies I know who MUST have that name on the headstock to help their self esteem or whatever it is that keeps them spending so much money for the name ...and I have been there to be sure. I wouldn't have 3 Gibbys otherwise. Between the Wildkat and my most excellent Sheraton II though, I gotta say that I am as much an EPI guy as Gibson now.

To the non Wildkat playing public who may be considering one: You oughta do it; pull the trigger!

Congratulations, Gashole! That's wonderful! Every time I see a "Kat" (Alley or Wild) I want one!

Someday, I'll have to indulge that desire, I guess? Especially with all the "Kat" porn there's been

on this forum, lately. LOL! Sounds like you have a match made in Heaven, with your SG, too. Have

a blast!

check the screws on the end of the tuning buttons..

sometimes you'll find one screwed in to tight, putting pressure on the rubber/plastic bushings and causing it to

turn hard.

and congrats.. pics immediately!
