mini humms vs p90s?

i have been wanting a guitar with p90's for a while even though my senses are telling me that mini humms and p90s are very similar i keep looking at them p90 guitars and wanting one. i went onto seymour duncans site and listened to the sound samples and the difference seems to be just a question of eq-ing. i have a mini humm guitar which is more trebley if i want the p90 sound add a bit more mids? how close can you get doing that. gas and ocd are not a good combo! how close can i get that way. i love the clarity of mini humms.

P-90's have a mid-range "quack" that the mini-humbucker's do not. Mini's are more articulate, than full size

humbuckers, but don't have quite the "roundness" of tone, that a good P-90 has. As to degrees, or how

important those differences are, to you...only you will know. I own both p-90 guitars, and mini humbucker

versions. They're both great, but quite different, too. The P-90's open tone is especially nice on hollow body

thin line, or Jazz boxes, as well. Casino's or Zepher Blues Deluxe are good examples. The '56 LP Goldtop is

a fine example of what they sound like on solid body guitars, as well as the Gibson SG "Traditional" or "Pete

Townsend" model, or the LP Juniors, and Specials. P-90's do have, however, some "60 cycle" hum,

associated with all "single coil" guitar pickups. How much, depends on if they're played clean, distorted,

have been shielded, or not...proximity to the amp, etc. Mini-humbuckers are not subject to that particular

problem. It's not a matter of better, or worse...just personal preference, or application.

Charlie pretty much covered it, you really can't compare the 2. They are both great and have advantages to different applications and types of music. IMHO, there's nothing better that blues rock on a Firebird V with minis, but I'm really more of a Strat guy so I love SCs as well.

The 60 cycle hum is only really an issue for me when it is present in quiet venues. I play a Strat frequently in a Church contemporary group and have to switch my pup selection when not playing to a combination setting to quiet the hum. P-90s. I love the quack from them though that you just can't emmulate with any HB.

Yes' date=' but if You'll notice, I only use the neck PU And there all humbuckers, the others go unused. I do like F*nders but only with hums. Stan.[/quote']

Stanley,Stanley,Stanley if it's got hum's.... it aint a strat bro.......and what's wrong with a Mini or P-90 in the neck? They can growl with the best Hum's IMHO. You need to spend some time with a good P-90 ....I'll convert you one of these days Damn it!(or die tryin'!) LOL#-o

on the seymour duncan site the sound really is close clean. but the samples are short with distortion i could not tell the difference. i was just thinking a bit of eq could get a pretty close replica?

have a listen. they are near the bottom.
