Bangbang
I let my buddy(played electric when he was a teen in a band) that is 62 now. He has been playing accoustic for the last 4 decades. I lent him one of my amps and let him check out my 2 fenders and an Epi G400 sg. He is hooked on the Epi SG and is now shopping for an electric. He plans on using his tax return in January so we are goin to have lots of fun shopping till then.
charlie brown
Which G-400 do you have, out of curiosity? Is it well balanced? I've heard differing accounts...some say their's are "neck heavy," and other's say their's are well balanced. I was wondering which my MIJ '61 would be, but I'm glad to say it's very well balanced, and light, too. Nice guitars! CB

CB[/quote'] He complained about it being a little neck heavy but quickly got over it when he heard those humbuckers( Gibson 490 and 498....I have no problem with it. I have the Faded G 400 but I replaced the pickups. I could have left it alone but I like messin around and spending money.
Notes_Norton
CB, when you think about it, our Casinos are a bit neck heavy. While I've never owned an SG or G400, I can't see where that would be a major problem. On my Casino and my ES-330 I use a 3" wide strap (planet waves brand) and that adds more friction on the shoulder to help keep the guitar from sliding too fast and I also play with the neck higher than the body. It's comfortable for me that way. Anyway, I have serious GAS for an SG, but just can't justify the expense right now. Notes
charlie brown
Yeah Bob...I wasn't being "critical," just mentioning what I had heard, from others here, on the forum, about their experiences with G-400's. And, to be honest...my Casino ('66 Kalamazoo version) is...if anything, body heavy. So, I don't know what the Japanese, Korean, or Chinese versions are doing differently...but my old '66 is definitely balanced more toward the body, than the neck. My MIJ '61 SG is totally balanced! Wonderful guitar! And, you're are quite correct, about a good strap, and holding position, too...to counteract a "neck heavy" guitar. If there's the will, there's a way! LOL! Just Strum
My Epi SG (G400) was neck heavy. Sitting down it was fine, but standing up causes you to hold it up with your fretting hand unless you had a strap with a rough underside. So with the right strap it was fine. TheX
Neck heavy? Try a Firebird. You'll never think the G400 is neck heavy again.
TWANG
just to add something: when I played banjo I bought a sheepskin padded strap.. and lately, I switched from my normal leather strap to a double thick one.. two pices sewed together.. and I was pretty surprised at the difference, just adding thickness. I do have a rather heavy lp studio.. and the sheraton is not angel food cake either.. but I was still pleased to note quite a bit of difference in comfort. charlie brown
I have a neoprene (bass) strap...fairly wide and flexible, too. Talk about weight relief! I got it, to offset the weight, from my Gibby LP Custom....that thing's an anchor! Sounds, and plays great, though! CB
