Hello everyone! I want a new guitar, and i've got a budget around 950 euros (1.300 US dollar)..now, I've got a few options..what should I do?

1. Wait till 2-2-2009 and buy a Casino Elitist from musicstore.de

2. Don't wait, and buy a normal Casino VS with Bigsby (and maybe upgrade a few electronics)

3. Don't wait, and buy a normal Casino (and maybe upgrade a few electronics)

4. an other guitar? Sheraton, Riviera, ?

I want a "330 model", so if you have got some ideas or other options, and advice, I'll like to hear it!

Thanks!

ive had a go on all the epi hollowbodys and ive found that the riviera's are insanely good, better then alot of high brow gibson 335s,355s ect. and most others when ive compared them.

however they stopped making them a while ago, but you can find 2nd hand ones flying about.

depends, if you plan on doing it yourself or getting a pro to do it because it could reflect the costs.

however, i would rather get the cheap casino then put pickups in that i wanted so i could get the exact unique sound i want.

but if you dont know much about pickups and cant be bothered with the fuss, could just wait for the elitist.

But' date=' another question: is the Elitist worth waiting one month, and paying a lot of more money? Or could you upgrade a normal Casino, for less money?[/quote']

If it were me, Yes. Elitist will be the best Casino you could get (save maybe the "Lennon" version,

which is a LOT more money, but not a lot different). And, I doubt seriously, you'd need to "mod" it,

unless you just felt like it. Pickups, electronics, and hardware are all American, and first rate, on the Elitists.

Get the Elitist. Yes, the hardware and electronics of a normal Casino can be upgraded, but the body construction of an Elitist is very high-quality and obviously one can't upgrade a normal to that.

I have two Rivieras and a MIK Casino (pictures to follow, maybe even today), and I play the Casino more than all my other electrics combined. (I count my MIK EJ160-E as an acoustic/electric, and I play it more than all my other guitars combined.)

Since I have never owned an Elitist, I cannot give a fair answer, but I do own an ES-330 so I can give a viewpoint on that.

My standard 2001 MIK (Peerless) Casino has Grover tuners and Duncan pickups with US pots and it sounds better plugged in than my 1970, stock, ES-330, MIUSA (Kalamazoo). I am guessing the better amplified sound is due to the Duncan pickups because the 330 actually sounds better as an acoustic guitar.

If you want a 330, the Riviera is a different guitar, so you might think twice about that one.

Musician's Friend is offering new 330s, but the price is steep (about $2,500.00 US).

OK differences between my 330 and are as follows:

Gibson - nitro finish / Epi - poly

Gibson - metal saddles / Epi - nylon

Gibson - MOP inlays / Epi - MOT

Gibson - better wood / Epi good, but not as good wood

Gibson - higher fret access / Epi - I don't often play that high anyway O:)

The build quality of both guitars are excellent.

Personally, I like the poly finish better, as it is easier to keep the guitar clean and shiny. I've heard it affects the tone of the guitar, and the Gibson does sound better unplugged, but the Grover pups make the Casino sound better than the Gibson once it is amplified, and that is what the audience hears.

If someone could compare the Elitist to the regular Casino features it might help you.

Is the Elitist worth the extra money? It depends on whether the differences are worth it to you or not. I can't answer that. If there was an Elitist for sale when I bought my "normal" Casino, I don't know which one I would have chosen.

Hi - If money is not an object, grit your teeth and wait two more weeks and get the Elitist Casino.

I own a Chinese-made Casino and am insanely happy with it. Swapped out the pickups for GFS P-90's and upgraded the tuners and bridge saddles (Tusq). Even put on a black pickguard like my 330 has. Plugged in, it sounds very close to the amplified tome of my 1966 ES-330. Unplugged, it's not as resonant - new wood, poly finish, etc.

But I have owned an Elitist Byrdland, and can tell you the quality of the build and electronics was spectacular. I would imagine that would apply to the Elitist Casino, too. You would have a guitar that very close to the Gibson 330 in build and electronics.

Another consideration: if you really want the sound of a 330, you need the hollow body and P-90's of the Casino. A semi-hollow with humbuckers will have a thicker, denser tone that won't quite be the same.
