So, have you ever compiled your "list"? Every guitar you ever owned?

generation zero

Recommended Posts

OK, here goes -- from memory.

1. Harmony H76 January 1965. Bigsby with three Dearmond pickups with separate switches volume and tone controls for each pickup. Paid $100 at a pawn shop in Phoenix. Great sounding guitar but I wanted a Fender soooo ....

2. Fender Stratocaster Fiesta Red April 1965. Paid $90 plus the Harmony. Sold in 1972.

3. Gretsch Tennessean. Bought in April 1967. Sold in 1972.

4. 1966 Martin D-18. Bought in 1972 for $150. Destroyed in 2006 when it lost a battle with a FedEX delivery truck or forklift. Why I Hate FedEX Loved that guitar but did not play it much for about 20-30 years when I really went inactive on the guitar.

5. Ovation Custom Anniversary or something like that. It had a tinted top, red white and blue soundhole decorations and herringbone purfling as well as a carved bridge. Got it about 1983 or 4. Decent guitar but I never really cared for the fiberglass body so I traded it in on a used ...

6. Mossman 12 string. Great sounding/playing guitar but it never quite felt right to me. Got it about 1988-9.

7. Fender Japanese Stratocaster. Found it used in Tucson for about $200. Had the Kahler inspired/licensed tremolo (vibrato). Loved the guitar, hated the vibrato. Sold it to a son's friend for a slight profit a few years later.

8. Guild X-170 Manhatton. Another guitar that I got to try to inspire me to play again got it in about 1998, about the time I discovered ebay.

9. Fender American Standard Stratocaster. Bought it for about $500 on ebay in 1999.

These didn't get me playing as much as I wanted so I decided that what I needed was to start playing acoustic fingerstyle so I bought a ...

10. Larrivee LV-03BW. Made from Australian Blackwood, a Koa kissin' cousin. Sounds a little ballsier than Koa but still in the same neighborhood. Wanted a little smaller guitar as well but a Larrivee parlor with my oversized frame looks like a ukelele so I bought a

11. Larrivee OM-03K. Great little guitar.

I still wasn't playing much until 2005 when I started up an oldies group with a bunch of other old farts who hadn't played much in years. While playing the Guild and Strat I decided I needed a tele so I bought a ...

12. 1996 Fender Custom 90s Telecaster. Based upon the '62 reissue tele custom but in Black with black pearl binding and pickguard with gold hardware and a modern bridge. Got it for $400 on ebay in 2006. Got a pair of Lindy Fralin SP pickups.

13. After FedEX destroyed my Martin I bought a Larrivee D-09 blackwood. Beautiful playing and sounding guitar and the looks will knock you out.

14. Larrivee LV-03-12 string. Not sure it is a better 12 string than the Mossman but it is a great one and it suits/fits me better so I bought it and sold the Mossman to the other guitar player in my band.

15. Epiphone Del Rey. The band and I decided that I needed a humbucking guitar and I found this one. Pretty nice little guitar once I changed the hardware and added Seymour Duncan pickups. Ended up selling it after I got the Sheratonto the same friend's son who bought my old Japanese Strat. He loves it.

16. Epiphone Sheraton II. Got it for $305 off of Ebay and then have been customizing it with various hardware items including a Bigsby and GFS Liverpool pickups.

Well, that leaves me with eight current guitars. I made some crack a couple of days ago about a new guitar and my wife shot me a drop dead look that wouldn't quit. So I guess it is a limit of 8 guitars for awhile.

I`m just gonna put in what I used to own and foolishly traded or sold. Or played My Generation to.

Starter guitars all acoustic.

Harmony f hole.

Kay f hole.

Greco acoustic. All destroyed during My Generation. Not one was more than $49.99.

Guild F-30. Sold.

Moserite. Serial number said 0075.

Fender 12 string in blue.

Fender lefty telecaster 1971.

Gibson SG junior.

Gibson Flying V.

Gibson Les Paul tv model. 1960.

Hondo Strat copy.

Epiphone Crestwood.

Out of all of those the only ones I regret getting rid of were The Moserite. Coz I now know it`s worth about 25,000 dollars. The Gibson SG Junior coz of the great sound. No regrets on the rest.

I know where the tv model is, but it never played right.

I might like the Crestwood back. But whenever I played it my arm hit the volume knob and lowered it.

Hi guys, well it's snowing in Southern NY again, I'm stuck at work and it's 6 AM. I should have been home in bed 5 hours ago but the inclement weather dictates emergency personal must stay. Joy Joy, hell, I'm glad to have a job soooo accept, deal and love it no? So lets see......

Guitar that I have sold off include:

1. Epiphone Elitist Dot. Gasp you say!! Tis true, but only after buying a Gibson 335 in the same color and I have 6 other Elitists.

2. Epiphone Sheraton II. Was sold off during a time when I had lost interest in the guitar. My comeback included a look at Epiphones website to research only to find out about Elitists and the Sheraton. The Elitist Sheraton sparked my lust and brought me back.

3. Washburn Acoustic. I can't remember the model number but I gave it away as a gift once I acquired several really nice acoustics.

4. Stevie Ray Vaughan Sig Series Strat. While I love SRV I never grew to like that guitar. I didn't care for the sound or feel or vibe. It just wasn't for me.

5. Fender Tex/Mex Tele with upgraded Custom Shop pickups. Was a lot of fun and really nailed that classic Tele sound. I sold it off due to a lack of interest as well.

Actually, this is almost identical to my list in my sig...

In order of acquisition:

GUITARS

1. Cort X2 ($120)- Given to my little brother

2. 2007 Epiphone SG Limited (Free)- Still Have

3. 1998 Epiphone LesPaul Special II Custom ($100)- Still have. Have put about $50 into it, to replace some broken components, also managed to get pickups from an old sheraton from a local guitar shop. They work, but it's a weird sound.

4. 2005 S101 Electric Acoustic ($225)- Still have

5. 2008 Epiphone Les Paul Standard ($400)- Still have. Puttng a LOT of work into this guy.

6. Squier Bullet- (Free) This is my "trainer" guitar to practice some refinishes and repairs on. Re-selling it to the person who gave it to me

AMPS

1. Crate MX[something]- ($50) Was given to brother. Turns out it's a bass amp. Whoops.

2. Marshall Microstack ($265)- Still have.

CASES

4 cases, from a new union jack one with built in tuner to an original '72 Gibson LP case. I like the vintage one.

All together they've run me about...$290. Ouch. That wasn't a number I wanted to see.

I think all together I have about $2200-2400 in equipment that I acquired for about $1400-1500. Not bad.

Ugh. I actually am thinking about selling some of those. Space constraints and my mom keeps yelling at me for spending my tuition/rent money on guitars. Ooops.
