Epi DOT vs. Sheraton II

In my book it would be. The Sheraton II has a slimmer neck profile, which I prefer. It has some beautiful finishes and neck binding. Sound wise you will find that they are pretty close. The extra money will really just be going for more cosmetics.

It's so personal!

I love my sheri.

I just bought a dot studi, used, from a forum member.

the neck is my great love on the sheri..

but I also like the large headstock and believe it helps tonally.

and the bling is righteous.

so worth it.. sure.

but hey.. a good looking dot is a good looking guitar, too. so who's to say.

I was at this same crossroads a few months ago; get the dot and save some cash or bite the bullet and spend a lot of more money and get the Sheraton. I got really lucky and found a Sheraton "new" (second owner, first owner NEVER played it) with a case for $450. It was on ebay at first but the guy was only a 2 hour drive away so I contacted him and worked out a deal. That's my advice. Find a great used Sheraton, because I think the Sheraton plays better (sweet neck like everybody else has said) and the looks will FOREVER be far ahead of a dot. I've only owned a Sheraton for 3 or 4 months, but TO ME (don't blast me for this) a Dot just looks kind of bland now. Good Luck!

I think that's about $300 too high. A Dot Deluxe is $399' date=' but you'll have to wait for 3 more months.[/quote']

Dang, I got mine just in time, last week in fact. I was having trouble deciding between the Sherry and Dot, but the thin neck did it for me. My Casino has a tiny neck and I flat don't like it much, so went with the Dot Deluxe flame top, and it's a beauty. I have about 5 other guitars including a couple of gorgeous Gibson Les Pauls, and when my wife saw the Dot she claimed it as her own. We'll have to see about that, haw.

Haven't taken any pics of mine yet, but here's the stock photo and mine is identical.. Plenty 'blingy' for me. This is a LOT of guitar for $400 in my book!

This is my first post. I am big Epi fan. I started out with an AJ-200 and now I have a somewhat temperamental AJ-500MNS. The tone is surprisingly dependent on humidity levels. Anyway, I have always wanted a Sheraton for playing blues mostly at home. I am mostly a singer-songwriter but playing electric blues is my kind of hobby. So I was considering a cherry Dot because Freddie King is my blues hero but the necks are just so big and I am used to my Tele. I figured I'd lurk on eBay looking for a good deal on a used or 2nd Sheri and found one. I got a natural Sheri 2nd for $425. I figure I can always throw 57s in it and swap out some of the hardware. I had really wanted to the old VS but they were going for upwards of $600 and it was hard enough to get the 450 out of the wife. A cherry Sheraton would've been absolutely perfect, for me at least.

Sadly, they don't come in cherry. The sunburst and the natural are just gorgeous though. Yeah, I started with a DR-200CE Used ($100 on ebay) and you can't beat the quality for the cost that epiphone produces. Welcome natsteel and hope you enjoy it here. I guess that's another vote for a USED Sheraton at (roughly) the same price as a NEW Dot. It might really come down to the simple fact of your habits as a guitar owner. I mean, if you are going to gig it hard and in 2 or 3 years get rid of it for something else, then get the dot. If you are looking for a guitar to keep forever, then go with the Sheraton. Oh and btw I DO gig with my Sheraton, and it has never let me down.

That's exactly how I felt. I couldn't bring myself to pass over the Sheri for only 25 dollars more than the Dot. I'd wanted a Sheraton since those John Lee Hooker ads came out about 15 years ago. You're right about quality too. I can't tell you how many times I've recommended those 200 models to beginner/cash strapped players. I only ended up trading my AJ-200SVS because I got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for it (my friend had no use for the amp and needed an acoustic). But you really can't go wrong with any of the 200s for the money. For all the bad talk you hear about Epiphone, it's mostly from people that have never played or owned one.

Hey I have one of each and though i love my sheri the DOT holds its own. plus the cherry finish is delightful.

get one of each and upgrade the electronics on both and then have a hard time deciding which one to play more.

it drives my wife crazy=d>
