Lord Summerisle
Ah yes, Johnny Marr. That well know American musician. He started out with a little known band called The Smiths. I think they were a west coast outfit, kind of like Jefferson Airplane. Lord Summerisle
sorry' date=' my bad[/quote'] Sorry for being a bit sarcastic. I thought it was funny because Johnny Marr was quite a big influence on Noel Gallagher. Noel acknowledges that seeing The Smiths (and hence Johnny Marr) live actually turned him on to semi-acoustic guitars... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1MsuoNJQ3U

AS90
Watch it! Oasis performing "Falling Down" on Top of the Pops special Comic Relief version yesterday. Even after all those 15 years of fame they still find epiphone guitars tonally exceptional over gibson ones and use them live. (just a pointer to some of the guys over here who thinks that gibson is everything best that's been ever created) :) Gem with natural casino and Noel playing some weird white pickguard Gibby. Noel gallagher recently said "Before we became very f-----' wealthy young men, I used to use Epiphone guitars," Gallagher explains. "But they're really a poor man's Gibson, which is what I now use. I don't have a deal with them, as I don't go in for that sort of thing. But I did design a guitar for Epiphone once." http://edition.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/23/day.gallagher/

TomLeech
thats why u dont understand oasis you didt grow up in the 90s .your from the skinny jeans and telecaster era of the kooks I think that the reason that they adjetates me about Oasis is not their music its the fact that he has to say something about any old **** to make sure that nobody forgets about them. I know im from a different era a **** era but the nineties music wise wasn't the best really was it? RenegadeMaster
Oasis are my favourite band, though I do recognise they are not the best in the world, they certaintly do polarise people though, People either love them or hate them! I honestly think Noel Gallagher is a legend, and we all know he is a arrogant ****, we acknowledge that, but I wouldn't change him for the world, and tbh whenever I hear, they are trying to be The Beatles, I know that person has never really actually listened to Oasis, I don't know what that opinion got to wide spread, they are NOTHING like the Beatles, though obviously they are heavily influenced by them
jrich44
i have experience from living i both eras as im only young myself and come from the so called 'skinny jeans and telecaster strumming era' oasis are probably my favourite alongside the beatles and yes they swapped and changed things around and Noel openly admits that but he did it no one else did, he actually went out and made something of it and made mountains of money from it. there are a lot of decent bands around at the moment but none that will ever probably reach the standard and heights oasis have. that is not to say that these bands are crap they play in a different style, periods of music change, simple
Lord Summerisle
the nineties music wise wasn't the best really was it? Their just the best band from a bad crop IMO I see it now. You're right! The '90s really sucked music-wise. Looking back' date=' I can't believe I wasted my time buying crap like [i']OK Computer[/i], Definitely Maybe, Nevermind and all that other garbage. I must have been out of my mind. Luckily, the 2000s have redressed the balance and have brought us some truly inspired artists. I speak, of course, of Nickelback, John Mayer, and a whole host of other geniuses. Most importantly, however, the 2000s have brought us yet closer to humankind's artistic zenith: How fortunate we are to move in these times... RenegadeMaster
To be fair 2000s have give us some goodies aswell Whatever People Say I Am, I'm Not The Libertines Good, Bad and The Queen Because Of The Times Blackholes And Revelations Demon Days Elephant Is This It Songs About Jane (I LOVE IT! ;)) Lycanthropy Parachutes Sams Town Think Tank (Personally like it) A Weekend In The City 9 Details Nouvelle Vague Some of them are abit personal tbh, I think every decade has its ups and downs, 2000s have produced some amazing music :)

And thanks to simon cowell and chums its gonna get worse but as long as their are people like us who don't listen to that crap then great music will live on. Lord Summerisle
this decade has produced some real quality bands and albums but alot of rubbish is getting through. And thanks to simon cowell and chums its gonna get worse but as long as their are people like us who don't listen to that crap then great music will live on. True enough! I agree that this decade has produced some good stuff. Of the bands already mentioned' date=' I admit that I do like the Libertines. I also like the Kings of Leon, the Raconteurs, and a host of others. However, these days I mainly listen to blues - Joe Bonamassa and so forth. My point about the '90s and Oasis really was this: I appreciate that Oasis were never everyone's cup of tea, but they are a good band, and, more importantly, they are a [i']real[/i] band. They were also incredibly successful. Every decade produces great music, but for me the '90s were exceptional because great bands also entered the mainstream. You could turn on MTV or VH1 and see and hear them. This morning my wife and I watched the VH1 Top 40 for the first time in ages. What a load of crap. Vapid, inane pop music. Entirely without value or substance. It's like throwaway pop is the music business's default setting, but for a few years in the '90s that was swept away and real music came to the forefront again. I was watching this film called Live Forever a while back. It was about the rise and fall of the "Cool Britannia" years in Britain - all the great British rock acts of the '90s were featured. One of the interviewees was asked to pick the moment in time when she felt it all came to an end. She said, without hesitating, "The moment Robbie Williams hit it big." In the U.S. the answer would basically be the same, but with Britney Spears taking the place of Robbie Williams. To my mind, Oasis are an amazing band. They deserve to be spoken of in the same breath as the Beatles, U2 and a tiny handful of others. Real musicians - a real band - who actually took the appeal of their music beyond music fans and into the mainstream, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural history of their times. I reckon 15 years from now my best friend's kid will be asking me about Oasis. And I can tell him that his Dad and I saw them live at Maine Road in 1996. That thought makes me happy. Quality bands tend to stick around...
