mbrooks0711 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Okay, so I came to find out today that my tax refund is going to be bigger than expected. Gave full disclosure to the wife and I think after saving a good amount, I should get about $500 to spend. Can't get a gold-top off my mind. Special note: they are discontinued according to the Epiphone website so I'm sure they will be much harder to find in the future. So i guess the real question is this: Is there any better way to spend $500 than on a '56 re-issue gold-top? awww. so beautiful
superbadj Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 They're awfully nice, for sure. For $500, I'd consider that, a used Casino, a Gretsch Pro Jet (with the awesome G-cut tailpiece), used Fender 50's Classic Esquire, used 50's Classic Telecaster. But hey, that's just me.
charlie brown Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 A "Gold Top," is ALWAYS a good idea! ;>) Go for it!! CB
mbrooks0711 Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Just got a little more difficult. A guy about an hour away has a Gibson Les Paul Studio with a case for $600. Such a great problem to have.
lpfan Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Go for the goldtop, its discontinued. The LP studios have been around for a while and will continue to be around for a while. That is a pretty decent price on the Gibson though.
BlueLesPaul2006 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 So i guess the real question is this: Is there any better way to spend $500 than on a '56 re-issue gold-top? is that a trick question? I think the gold top is the only way to spend.
timandbob Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 In my band in college (in the 70s) we all had gold top Les Pauls. I had the gold top les paul signature hollow body, and 2 of my band mates had gold top les pauls. All those guitars are now sold. I wish I still had my gold top les paul signature hollow body, Sigh. go for the gold top!
Lord Summerisle Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 When we went to H&R Block, we somehow ended up giving my wife's bank details for the direct deposit of our tax refund. So bang goes my scheming and plotting for a Gibson Firebird. Probably a good thing really...the fridge and stove are on the way out. I told her that the gas station across the way sells cold beer, and there's a perfectly good pizza delivery joint in town...but maybe she is seeing the bigger picture...
clarkuss Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 If its now a choice between a gold top and a Gibson Les Paul Studio I'd go for the gold top because they look nicer. What colour is the studio?
mbrooks0711 Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 the studio is wine red, and if I was to theoretically buy a gibson lp studio, it would be in wine red.
clarkuss Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 you've already got an Epi LP. I would go for the studio. Adding a Gibson to the collection can never be a bad thing. Wine red is a good colour for the studio as well...
RSDx Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Do it !!!! (GT, that is....) So i guess the real question is this: Is there any better way to spend $500 than on a '56 re-issue gold-top? :- Hmmmmm .... send it to me, perchance ???!!!???
mbrooks0711 Posted April 1, 2009 Author Posted April 1, 2009 Yeah, I'll send it to you if you have a used goldtop in mint condition with a hardcase... lol
bluesman345 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 +1 on the Goldtop!!! The P90's actually GRRROWWWLLL!
gregsguitardotnet Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 The tone aint in a color ,but you can color your tone.......
lpfan Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Did you get the goldtop? What are you waiting for? Go get it, NOW!!!!!
mbrooks0711 Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 I'm trying to find one around here. I'm in east Texas where its all "we've got fenders and thats all we need" attitude. Oh and the one epi dealer around here doesn't have one. I just hate to buy it without playing it.
