Sydex
Hello, I have a question, has anyone ever played an electric guitar through an acoustic amp? I also want to know what did it sound like, I'm interested mostly in how clean it made the guitar sound I'm not one that plays with a lot of distortion anyways. Thanks, Sydex
pohatu771
I did once... it was nice. Very flat, and felt kind of thick. It turned P-90s into a very humbuckery sort of sound. I guess that's the point of an acoustic amp - take the thin-sounding acoustic pickups and make them sound like an acoustic guitar.
The_Buffalo
I have played my MIK Casino & my MIK EJ160-E through my Peavey ecoustic It sounded o.k., (but not as good as through my Fender DeVille 410, or my Marshall Valvestate VS 100 or even my Vox Pathfinder 15) It didn't damage the guitars or amp in any way. It was a little TOO clean, if you know what I mean. What I haven't tried, is running the guitar through my Boss FBM-1 pedal first, then the Peavey. taxman
That's my Crate Taos acoustic amp. One day just out of curiosity I plugged my Epiphone Casino into her. WOW! It sounded so much better than through my VOX AC30. Yes, the Casino through an overdriven VOX sounds incredible, but for a clean sound nothing beats playing my Casino through that little Crate acoustic amp. Hard to describe sounds using words, but I'll just say it is impeccably clean and it has a warmth and a depth that my regular electric amps don't give the guitar. After the astonishing discovery with my Casino, I tried all my guitars through my acoustic amp. That little Crate really gives a warmth and crystal clarity to all of them. I love it. I will only play my Gretsch through the Crate. The Crate has an incredible slap back echo effect and my Gretsch sounds amazing in that amp. Obviously if I want to rock I use my VOX or Fender amps. But for cleans with warmth, an acoustic amp can deliver the goods. The Crate Taos is a very cheap amp..about $150. It is well worth every penny. For stage one can buy a bigger Crate, but for home use I am very happy that I found myself another great amp for my electric guitars -- even though it is an "acoustic amp." peeper
You could also try a bass amp.
jonnyg
I gigged with a 3 channel, 1x15" and horn Peavey keyboard combo for about 11 years. With a Riviera plus little echo and reverb it was the best clean sound I ever had. I had a POD plugged into channel 2 for when I needed a rockier sound and channel 3 was for an electro acoustic. Best setup I ever had. JG
RobinTheHood
You could also try a bass amp. +1 Our guitarist runs his tube combo amp with an external bass cab. It sounds really nice.
