fenrirlupus
............Yes or No' date=' and why? Thanks[/quote'] that'd have to be a "maybe" i like the tone, they're harder to bend. I'd have to say try it... perhaps you should buy a single string to replace your g string first, and if you like it, get sets with a wound g string. DizzyFingers
I replace the g string with a wound on all my guitars...the reason? It sure helps with intonation...and I find it rings much better...:-
sledge57
I'm thinking of re-stringing the Kat before it sells and I thought I might try it.
DizzyFingers
Just get the same guage string in a wound...it sure saved my butt trying to get the intonation set on a number of guitars...! Fender even has a wound g string in their flatwound sets...
brad1
I was curious as to what it was lilke to play with a wound G. So I got a set with one. Didn't really like it. I bend strings a lot. And the G string is probably the one I bend the most. So for me all it did was make it harder to bend the string. I also didn't like the way it sounded when I bent it. For me, I'll stick with the unwound.
Guest icantbuyafender
I'm thinking of re-stringing the Kat before it sells and I thought I might try it. SELLING THE KAT!?? NOOOOO how much!? :- I use Ernie ball .10's and put a wound .20 or .22 for the G it just feels better and doesnt dig into my finger tips like a normal plain G does. pohatu771
I have one on my Casino at the moment, and don't see much difference. Maybe it's the way I play. I like the set of strings better, but I think it's an overall effect, not that individual string. I will start putting them on my Spirit, though, as long as it has the wraparound bridge. Gibson designed it to intonate with a wound G, so I'd might as well use it.
The_Buffalo
If you play a lot of lead/melody, a plain string is easier to bend. If you play mostly rhythm/chords, the wound may be the way to go.
bonzoboy
A wound G will give you a little more punch and sustain D'Addario makes an extra light gauge set that goes something like this 09P 11P 18W 26W 32W 42W if that's not the exact gauges it's pretty close within a mm. or 2. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
