Casino

Hello, I am new to these forums and somewhat of a newby to guitar. I have been playing now for about a year and a half, and I have always wanted a Casino and I am ready to purchase one. I can really only afford the standard $600 model and prefer the vintage sunburst finish. My problem is I am having a hard time figuring out what the finish is going to look like. In all the stock photos there is a ton of black around the edges which I don't like compared to the way the Lennon model looks, but I checked around a little bit and haven't been able to find if that is the way they are or if they are more like the finish on the IBJL guitars. I have also read alot of debate concerning the Japan, Korean, and Chinese guitars, but have heard that the newer Made in China guitars are good. Any pictures or help on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I own a 2009 Chinese built Casino and it's a great guitar, flawlessly finished. Current Casinos feature the correct sunburst finish, not the teardrop burst which you've seen in stock images, which is the kind of burst you might find on a Dot/ES-335 or Les Paul.

Here's a picture of my Casino.

As I said, it's a Chinese built example and flawless, one of the best guitars I have ever played. That said, you're well advised to try before you buy to be certain the guitar you're getting is what you expect. This is true of any guitar really.

If you shop Sweetwater on line they show actual photos of their in-stock guitars.

Thanks for all the quick replies, it helps me out quite a bit. Unfortunatley I cannot find any shops near that have one I can play, although I did try out a DOT at a Guitar Center. What are the main differences other than hollow/semi-hollow or the fret access. Are the necks similar in thickness?

Thanks.

I know what you are talking about. Many photos on the web show the standard Casino with solid black edges, particulary on the two upper horns. That's called a Gibson burst and the new standard Casinos do not do that. When I ordered mine I was afraid that when I took her out of the box I would see two solid black horns. I didn't. The new Casinos are done with a very nice burst. Here's my standard 2008 burst Casino:

Unfortunately no stores in my area keep a Casino in stock. Also, Sweetwater only has a cherry one in stock. So I was wondering if anyone has an opinion of who would be the best to order one online from? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well Musicians Friend ships free and no sales tax so you might consider that option. I've ordered guitars from just about all of them and all have arrived on time and intact. I believe Sweetwater gets the nod as best to deal with but I've had no problems with any of them.

Good Luck.

ps here are my casinos

Thanks everyone for all of the help and info. I just decided that Sweetwater made me too good of a deal on a IBJL Casino in vintage sunburst, so I had to order it today. I was just going to get the standard Casino, but they didn't have one, so they forced my hand. I should have it on Thursday, I will post some pictures. Again, thanks!

I was able to pick up the IBJL Casino shipped 3rd day air (because I didn't want to wait any longer than that) for $865 total. I thought it wasn't too bad of a deal especially considering you get to see the actual pictures before hand as well.

I own a Chinese-made vintage sunburst Casino with the factory-installed Bigsby. I finally got to play an IBJL Casino today, and I can't say that I like it any better than the one I have. In fact, I liked it less. And now I feel a lot better (less jealous) about the fact that I don't have one!
