Tim Plains Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Just buy a goldtop reissue, change the pickguard & togle switch ring to black...close enough and you save $1,500.
FennRx Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Just buy a goldtop reissue' date=' change the pickguard & togle switch ring to black...close enough and you save $1,500.[/quote'] +1 you could buy a used 50s neck Std and put every upgrade on it and not come ANYWHERE near $4400.
retrosurfer1959 Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Man I don't get the heavily relic job they do on these guitars as art or whatever they are. I just know I wish I would of thought of this though. Take new guitars destroy paint job put on knobs that don't match mix and match a few parts and add 40% to price. What I can't figure out is why the use new one's, they should just search ebay for guitars people abused and then they could make even more than they already do who would notice or care more mojo they could say or more period correct fr the non 50's models.
slimjimdom Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Anyone notice the strings are top wrapped around the tailpiece? Also acrylic inlays. But I agree with you all. Buy a Goldtop and substitute the black plastics.
MikeRom Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 44 hundred bucks is a little outside my comfort zone. Could get a new traditional AND a new standard for that much dough.
