Californiaman
I'm off to the state capital early tomorrow morning. We're going to pan for gold on the American River Wednesday. Sleep over at Sutter's Fort Thursday night and visit the Capital and Rail Road Museum Friday. I'll post some photographs when we get back. This is always a fun trip for the fourth grade class. Beautiful part of the state! Love Placerville and all those little mountain towns in the foothills. Have a good time!

Californiaman
Last time we did this trip some of the kids found a few grains of gold in the bottom of their pans. I don't think anyone will find any nuggets of any significance, but I hear there's gold in them there hills. http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/local/los_angeles&id=7937991

brad1
Hey Californiaman, that should be a lot of fun. I've been there many times. In fact, I live right downtown about half mile away from Sutters Fort. The weather is supposed to be nice (finally). Have a good time. :)

I love going there. I just wish I could get out and do a little more exploring. We'll be at Sutter's Fort all day Thursday. Stop by and say high. We're set up to do an interactive field trip. There will be stations the kids are rotating to and from all day. Carpentry, candle making, black smith shop, the wagon, cooking biscuits, basket weaving, textiles, etc.. We've got some authentic entertainment set up for the evening and some real square dancing.
grampa
Welcome to town. I'm a native of Sacramento so I am very familiar with Sutter and the Gold Rush. My brother used to play music for those "Living History" events at the fort and always kind of liked it, great old timey fun. Enjoy. If you get any free time, the 5th String music store is just a few blocks away. Cool place.

The Guitar Workshop (another local music store) is just a couple of blocks from there.
