tvguit
Anyone ever see a Century with a rosewood neck and inlays? This one belongs to a relative. More pix http://smg.photobuck...bson%20Century/ Hi Lonesome, that is an absolutely stunning Century. I am very jealous of your relative! I believe they call these "picture frame" inlays. I have heard that sometimes they would cut up unused RB-5 (banjo) fretboards and inlay them into guitars. Check this thread on an interesting L-5 with picture frame inlays: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/54729-please-help-date-this-gibson-l-5-special/. Nice! lonesomeagle1
As far as she knows that is the original fretboard. She bought it from the original owner some years age up in New Hampshire. I was able to see it last year . Looks original to me. She is about to move to Tenn this summer. Would it be a good idea to stop in Nashville with it? and who should she see? Needs some TLC... michaelsegui
The 12 fret neck and the lack of a truss rod cover shows that this was originally an HG-LC for Hawaiian playing. I wonder if the MOTS was removed from the fretboard when it was converted to Spanish style?
tvguit
I would believe that the fret board is original. I was referring to a practice that Gibson did at the factory. Interesting point from michaelsegui about it being originally for slide playing. I didn't notice it at first but I would definitely agree. I think when she moves to Nashville she should see.. well... ME! Kidding, she should see Joe Glaser if she needs repair work.
