Searcy
Love, love, love my compressor pedal. Probably the most important effects pedal in Nashville. My favorite 200W solid state amp has a killer one built right in.

Jeff-7
Compressors have their place, too often they are abused and you get some of the soulless crap you hear on the airwaves.
Enmitygauged
Personally compressors for acoustics work great Ive never used one on a SB Electric. Im about as minimalist as it gets. Tuner and Noise Gate. Its a very broad term to say Noise gates dont work or they suck. Each to their own They work if you know how to use them. I could never use a huge pedal board with 50 different sounds. I like my amp and guitar to make the sound. Personally to me everything else is just over kill. It works for a lot of people though and good on em.
