Lungimsam Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 I like how her voice howls when she sings "..to care FOR whiskey and from it..." Dig the strap being tied to the headstock. Old school...
Lungimsam Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 I could be part of that audience. Old school. You mean you saw her live back in the day?
damian Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Fantastic stuff......Looks like she's singing through a RIBBON mike.......interesting....
bonzoboy Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Donovan does an excellent cover of this song too.
BobB Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Malanie Safka was one of my favorite singers from the folk scene.
Guest rogerb Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I grew up in that era, always liked Buffy vocals.
grampa Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 You mean you saw her live back in the day? Yeah but not quite as long ago as that video seems to be, it looks like fairly early 60's, I didn't see Buffy until mid-late 60's. I did accompany a singer on that particular song one time.
Lungimsam Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Never saw her live. Would like to have. I emailed her with a question about this song when I was transcribing it and the songbook was wrong. She was nice enough to take the time to confirm that I got it right from what I was hearing on the recording. Nice lady.
milod Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 Buffy had that vibrato like Edith Piaf - and Sylvia Tyson has a similar but somewhat more urban vibrato regardless what else. I never saw Buffy. Nor Melanie. Always questioned the degree to which one should consider the music of either as "folk," but then I never managed to figure out what "folk" might be. Childe or Lomax? I dunno. m
