What do you think of the standard Casinos?

I could get a MIC "Standard" Epi Casino very cheap.I already owned a "inspired by" Casino and do know the difference in specs, but never got a chance to play the standard one.

Please, don´t say "get a MIK" or stuff like this. It´s this one or maybe a new ´61 anniversary, but i could get the used Standard Casino for half of the money of an ´61 anniversary....so....

what do you Standard Casino owners think?

I'm a die-hard ES 330 aficionado

But used to own a Peerless Songbird

And currently play a friend's recent MIC Casino

For the money it is excellent IMO...particularly good woodwork and deep gloss finish

Better sound than the Songbird

But nowhere near the ES 330....only 1/5th of the price, so about par....

I have a MIC standard natural Casino and a 1965 John Lennon Casino. The Standard was $550 and worth every cent of it and more. The fit and finish and the playability and tone of the standard are far superior to other guitars in its price range. They are just superb guitars.Of course the 1965 Casino is just an absolutely astounding guitar and it was still quite a bargain at $2,600.

I'm curious...no disrespect.

Is your IBJL not inspiring you anymore? It should outperform

the standard in everyway. I had a standard MIC Casino and sold it

to fund my Sheraton. It was a fine guitar. The bridge p/u was

weak, probably due to the string height differences. Fit and finish

was good.

It seems like acquiring a standard after already owning an IBJL is

going backwards. If you want another Casino or P90 guitar, I would

look at the 61 Anniversary with the vibrato. Or a P93 Riveria with

a Bigsby. Those would be more different than your IBJL.

I don´t have the IBJL anymore and besides the pickups, there´s not that big difference...

I have owned a handful of standard Casinos. I currently play regularly with a Chinese and an Unsung Korean Casino. I got a bit of a bad'un with the chinese (early run, chunky neck, little life in pickups) but I still manage to make a decent sound out of it and play it at least twice a week live with no tuning, intonation or performing details. I've made some mods but more aesthetic than anything else. Out of all the Casinos i've owned it's my least favourite but still gets the nod ahead of my riviera, dot deluxe etc.. The Unsung one is a pleasure to play.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the standard models, especially the recent batch as well as the IBJL and '61 RI.

I personally don't have much use for any more standard Casino purchases as my tastes are getting a bit more expensive but for the last 7 years I have always had at least one and it has been my go to guitar for writing, recording, rehearsing and performing and I own 10-15 guitars including a couple of Gibsons and a Rickenbacker.

Gents -- I've been offered a slightly-used Casino, a Standard I guess (not IBJL or Elitist), with HSC for $450. I only played it acoustically (and only a tiny bit) and it rang like a bell. Really couldn't believe it, but then I'm not accustomed to full-hollows. It was all a gorgeous metallic blue. Went in to see about consigning my Epi LP Standard (Bigsby, gold sparkletop, MIK Limited Ed.), and walked out fighting the GAS really hard. Didn't even plug it in, but I wanted it. What say you about this?

The Casino in Metallic Blue was a limited edition and is quite rare. At $450 with a hard case it's a STEAL. A good and resonant acoustic tone is an excellent sign too --- as long as there are no problems with it (neck hump or warp, bad electronics, etc.) I would say "jump on it."

Thanks for the input, Parabar. I think I'll drop by later this week and plug it in and see how it feels and sounds, doublecheck the price. I mentioned it, and he clearly didn't think my beautiful Epi LP would sell there, so it would be no good in a trade. I disagree entirely, but it's his shop....
