Strings for Tonewoods

Recommended Posts

With no regard towards Brand Type, which strings do you prefer for the 3 most popular tonewoods

Rosewood - Mahogany - Maple

And why those strings are your favorite.

Phosphor Bronze on both my mahogany b/s and rosewood b/s guitars. I dont have a maple guitar so cant comment there.

I never could get used to the sound of 80/20's on any of my guitars. In general I find them to be very lacking in the low end. I guess I have become accustomed to the PB sound.

fwiw...I also prefer the reddish look of PB's over the very brassy look of 80/20's [tongue]

Generally i used 80/20s on my rosewood Martins for added brightness for flatpicking. So far on my rosewood Gibson Advanced Jumbo ive used 80/20s too. But its a naturally bright guitar so im gonna try some PB soon to see how they work. But in all reality its hard to pin one type of string to a certian tonewood, because even similar tonewoods have their own personality and respond differently to different things.
