Casino4Life
Yea I received another email indicating that they switched back to Rosewood in early February
SG2008
Is it north american rosewood granadillo or indian. As for neck flexing I had that problem on an epi but the gibson standards neck join is stronger and just as stable as my les pauls. Value for money the sg standard is hard to beat. not used to writing on a phone but I hope this is clear enough.

JM2112
Just glad to hear they are back to Rosewood I believe that if the rosewood is imported it will be a laminate consisting of two strips glued together. The SG Standard is listed as using rosewood again with the SG Standard Limited and the Standard P90 as using the new maple fretboards last time I looked at the specs. There's no issue with the new maple fretboards, they're excellent. If you like the feel and playability of ebony you'll love the maple. Regardless of rosewood or maple, the SG Standard is a great guitar.
Casino4Life
Agreed. Just used to the rosewood board on my Casino, if mine comes with baked maple mo complaints its still and SG
Bender 4 Life
love my "post flood" 7/10 Std. the p'ups WERE a touch "thick", raised them 1.5 turns, problem solved. the tuners are fine...14-1 PW stamped(Planet Waves?) Gibson Deluxes...solid as a rock! the case is as sturdy as any i've owned. the "neck flex" issue usually happens on short tenon SGs, modern Stds are long tenon. but ANY neck will flex a bit if you TRY to flex it......I once cracked a Strat neck pocket using "neck whammy" a-la Hendrix. some eye candy

Casino4Life
Just heard back from Gibson. Indian Rosewood is again being used!
SGgypsyboy
Indian Rosewood IS being used again.....BUT...... it is layered/laminated, not a solid slab!! Look at the main Gibson guitar site under the FAQ-Tonewoods section. Kind of shocking, but stable none the less. Casino4Life
Yea i saw that. Ive heard mixed reactions, as long as the guitar sounds and plays good dosent really matter to me. Like i saud still a Gibson SG
mattcran
I've had an SG Standard since 95 and it's the truest guitar I've ever had. Action stays just right and it keeps very good tuning even after sitting for days. I've always thought Gibson's were odd in that they usually go out of tune high. JM2112
Yea i saw that. Ive heard mixed reactions, as long as the guitar sounds and plays good dosent really matter to me. Like i saud still a Gibson SG There will always be some that scream the sky is falling every time something changes on the guitar. Simply ask these whiners this question: If putting two layers of rosewood together is so bad then how is putting mahogany and maple together on the Les Paul so good?!?!?!? Hope you enjoy your new SG!!!
