Do The Beatles still hold up to modern music?
Sgt. Pepper replied to cody78's topic in The Gibson Lounge
There would. The Beatles first album was out in '63. I think in '60 they formed and by '62 it was now the lads as we know them as: John, Paul, George and Ringo. The Stones first album was out in '64. So Mick and the boys were already playing and gigging. I think they stated in '62. Clapton was in the Yardbirds in '63. So Eric C was already playing and gigging. The Animals first album was out in '64. So Eric B was already playing and gigging. I think they stated in '62 as well. Did The Beatles influence them. I'm sure, but all 3 guys you mentioned didn't hear them, and then decided to start a band or playing, cause they already were. -

In 100 years The Beatles will still be talked about, will Bruno Mars, or P!nk, or Green Day, or Amy Winehouse? I do not like every song, note, or chord from every band I like. There are lots of stuff from The Beatles I don't enjoy. Rev #9 is annoying after one listen, hell its annoying during the initial listen. Then Ringo has to sing some songs. Dudes you have Paul in the group how about we let him take the vocals. How about them Led Zeppelin's? They made In Though The Out Door. Which is as soft as a male porn star before he pops a blue pill, and the list could go on. -
I'm sure its trial an error over years of trying, and it works (sounds good) or it doesn't (sounds awful). But if you insist go ahead and build one with a Balsa or Pine wood top and hear with it sounds like. For electrics with pups I am sure the body wood could be many more types that what is used on acoustics. After you stomp on your distortion pedal can you really hear all the nuances of Mahogany?

Cause how dare we make fun of stuff like guys who can't beat other guys in swimming, so they decide to swim on the women's team, and people think its okay, and normal. I'll bet if I fight a 5 year old in a cage match I could win. But just barley.

I always wanted to shower with the girls, and come to find out all I had to do was say I was a girl, and its just that easy.

The one thing you need to remember was how much after the first few albums is how they started using the studio as an instrument. How do you accurately recreate some of the music they made without 7 extra musicians? By the time the lads decided to give up touring it was time. Girls screaming and no one can hear, and they were not playing that great live either. -
Does anyone go into a Lambo, Porsche, or Ferrari dealer, and say I want the shinny yellow one out it the front of the lot, and can I ask a favor? I want it relic-ed. Can you kick the left door with a steel toed boot, and drop a brick on the hood, and please scratch the entire right side with a key? You know who does that, no one? You know who does it with guitars? A few. And they will pay extra for it. Thank you sir, may I have another.

İf you could give Gibson a guitar idea what would it be?

Isn't that every sig model and LTD model? A tweak here or there,or a guitar with old specs, and its now priced at thousands of dollars over what it should be. -

Do the Beatles hold up today. That fact that we are discussing them 60 years after they hit the scene, and all 4 haven't recorded a note together since August of '69 I would say YES. I would rather listen to a 55 year old song than the c-rap out today. Does Beethoven and Mozart's music hold up? -
Yes of course there is a market for doc's and lawyer's to have "new" old looking expensive guitars, but on the used market how do you know if your getting a decent relic or a c-rappy relic-ed one? They are supposes to look beat. Do you want a guitar with less or more of a beating? If I try to sell a used relic-ed guitar how do you know if all the relic-ing is all original, or what was made by the the owner?
-
So your in the market to step up to that super expensive relic-ed guitar (acoustic or electric your choice). You cruise Reverb or what ever your favorite buying site is, and you decide to buy used, and hopefully save a buck or two. So how do you know the relic-ed guitar you bought is a good, bad, decent, killer, or awful relic job? Its not like you can say "Hey can you come down a few hundred, this guitar is a little beat up?" Its supposed to look beat up. Guys have come here with new guitars and nit picked every little thing wrong on the guitar. Now the relic-ed one you want is supposed to look beat up and not new. In 10 years is there going to be a relic grading system of how good or bad the relic-ing is on the relic used market?

Brian got the nice ones. Who remembers they made a Slash FB. Yep he has all the sig models, FB's, of course 15 LP's, a J-45 and an ESD-1275. He has to have the most sig models of any player from any company. http://legacy.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/2017/Custom/Slash-Firebird.aspx -

That actually looks like a number and a few letters. Not really a word. -
We are, but I was asked those questions, so I answered them.

So its wood with a fungus that grew in it.

Gibson should make an Autumn Guitar with a paint scheme that changes color every year like the leaves do.

I use D'ad XS's 11 - 52. The ones in the white pack. So I'm probably a racist. I hate blue guitars. Not interested in a Workhorse. I do like a G sting. Although the G string you are hinting at, I call Butt-floss.
