  1. Yanno.... my experience with an 'older woman' didn't happen until I was visited by an Avon Lady! (and my music had NOTHING to do with it!). Now.... "older ladies" are all much younger than me!
  2. HAHAHAHAHA.....back in the day we used to call our Roadie a Band-Aid.....and to tell you the truth, I never found him attractive in the least! I got reacquainted with him 50 years later, (he was a salesman who sold to our company), and to tell you the truth.....I STILL didn't find him attractive in the least!
  3. I certainly don't credit myself with "movie star looks", but I always did 'okay' around the girls. My first wife saw me at a gig.... and latched on to me.....(unfortunately, she 'latched on' to a few other musicians in the SF Bay Area too!). I had my share of groupies during my playing days, but I'm far from achieving the status of Wilt Chamberland! You're right...there HAS to be more to a guy than a guitar to attract women....but it doesn't have to be looks, (think Lyle Lovett & Julia Roberts). It could be personality..... force of presence...... humor.....on and on. Most people don't know music, and aren't interested in whether someone can hit every lick in "Voodoo Child"....they just want to be entertained.
  4. My wife 'accepts' the fact that Groupies were part of the life...but she was pretty protective of me whenever I played after we met.
  5. My early music career is well known in here…..but after, I played at several of my SIL’s weddings. At one of them, I was playing some songs, and one of my SIL’s friends came up to me and asked, “Do you screw as good as you play?” My wife was right there and didn’t much appreciate what she said! I wanted to tell her, “yeah…..pretty much a hack at both.”
  6. I meant "Hacks" in the respectful way! I know that musicians...those who know music like the backs of their hands, practiced a LOT.... lived and breathed music....that's how they got so good....and us 'hacks' had other interests...lives outside of music. It's a choice we make....not EVERYONE can be a professional musician.
  7. When I say 'good music', I mean good to me. I don't care if anyone else likes what I like. There is no 'Best' guitarist..... different 'greats' for different genres.... Is Jimi greater than Segovia? Is SRV greater than Django? The good thing is that music isn't (at least SHOULDN'T be) a contest. When I play with people not as skilled as me, I try to teach them..... when I play with people with more skills than me, I try to learn from them.
  8. Great job! I'd like to hear it.
  9. MP, I tend to like good music. I can (usually) leave the politics behind and enjoy the music for music's sake. You didn't name one band/artist that I don't enjoy some of their music....and not one who has produced some music I don't care for. The "song" is all important....I feel the true 'musicians' are those who write great songs, (like our own Murph). Guys like me are just hacks, (but I ain't complainin').
  10. Yes, I saw her play guitar on the documentary....she KNOWS her way around a guitar!
  11. I'd like to see the movie..... where can I get it? These guys (+ Carol) were so far ahead of guys like me in their knowledge of music, it's incredible. I took music theory in college....so I understand their language, but I'm not conversant in it....and it's second nature to them!
  12. Notes, speaking for "The Beat Goes On", I watched a Carol Kaye documentary, (she came up with the famous bass line in that song). She had more talent in her little finger than 99% of the well-known stars had in their entire bodies. People who don't know about "The Wrecking Crew", (Carol, Don Randi, Glen Campbell, Leon Russell, Earl Palmer, Tommy Tedesco, etc), are missing some of the greatest musicians who ever played.
  13. Ray is HUGE in Nashville.... probably second to Chet when Chet was alive.
  14. Would there have been The Beatles had there not been a Buddy Holly or Chuck Berry? I'm not so sure.
  15. Yes.... I knew all that...but all of them were marketed as "Boys from England" or "Boys from Liverpool". Of course, they would have been 'around', but would they have made it as big as they have?
  16. I think, as a group, we've accurately defined the Beatles. I was pretty young in 1963 when I first heard them....compared the music that was out there, they were TOTALLY different.....and it started an entire generation, (multiple generations?) of bands and singers! They're old now....of course.... but so are we. I think Sgt. is right...most people can't name 3 songs by Toto, Bruno Mars, Pink, Green Day or Amy....but most people can name a dozen Beatles songs. People remember Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis...they're the greats Rock & Roll was based on....Pink? Not so much. Would there be an Eric Clapton, Eric Burden, Mic Jagger without The Beatles? Not so sure.
  17. I used to watch his show on RFD-TV. Not sure why it's not on any more.
  18. Thanks…..I know it works that way for a video…..didn’t know it would work for a picture.
  19. I need to get a better way to post photos.... difficult with FB and not everyone has it....I used to have "Photo Bucket" but they decided to hold my photos hostage until I paid them for the service! Anyway, after a year or so of playing my 'Bird, here is a photo of the pickguard. I took this photo today....after HUNDREDS of hours of play: I consider that "Mojo" on the guitar! I suspect this pickguard will be more robust....this is also after many years of play:
  20. You're right..... maybe someone took a Norlin-Era J-45.... put on pickup and electronics? Seems like a lot of work.
  21. It's not a J-45.... it's a J-160e...... probably a later model since it's a square-shoulder model.
