  1. FYP, that's EXACTLY how I felt my last few years...... I had to attend a "staff meeting" every Monday.... and over time, I was the oldest guy in the room.... people younger than me were retiring. The "staff" was 12 people....I attended them for most of my 39 years with the company.... and I saw significant turnover through the years, (I was 30 when I started attending the staff meetings). What I found is that technology and terminology moved on from me, (I didn't know what they were talking about half the time...and if I did, I didn't understand how to implement it!). I always said the next big "life event" after Retirement isn't all that enjoyable! But I do love Retirement!
  2. No longer have a 401k....rolled it over to an investment firm who pays me some money each month....figured out the government gives us 20 to pay back the taxes that were deferred on our 401K's....the "RMD" is planned out! Sold ALL my real estate, ('cept my house). No gold...a little silver.....wife bugs me to buy gold and silver....maybe.... A few Fender tube amps, Several Gibson acoustics.... have some spare vacuum tubes laying around. So, I'm all set!
  3. It was a wonderful place.... old war planes flying over constantly..... good people..... safe neighborhoods.... exciting places to visit..... Was the center of the music world in some ways..... Not like it is now.....
  4. Since almost everything I watch is done on delay, I almost never have to see a commercial.
  5. Yes! And only someone who has eaten them can know just how good they are!
  6. This is kinda the "Home of the Sourdough French Bread". Before San Francisco became a human waste dump site, we used to go to Pier 39.... buy Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread bowl.....pretty hard to beat!
  7. I've seen London, I've seen France. I see someone's Underpants!
  8. Murph, you've officially hit the "Get off my lawn" phase of your life!
  9. My Brother-In-Law (who just gave my son his dad's Lincoln); built a chopped '51 Ford....he calls it "Rocky". He gave all his cars & hot rods away as he is now 77 and bed-ridden with MS....."Rocky" went to his step-son.....if I owned it, I wouldn't change a thing....just drive it!
  10. My next door neighbor has chickens....and there are horses behind me. We have deer in the yard pretty often, but usually up on the upper lot so I see them poke their heads over the side once in a while. There are only 5 houses on our street.... We have 'new' neighbors on the street..... a family and her parents.... they are building an ADU for the parents...been there maybe 2 years. The next newest neighbors are a couple of PhD's....who live maybe 4 months a year in England.... been there probably 25 years. We are the 'middle' house....both in location and our seniority.....we're coming up on 30 years. The people at the end of the street, he was a scientist at the Lawrence Livermore Lab, but has been retired about 10 years. They've been here about 35 years! The oldest residents are our next door neighbors, (with the chickens). Their house started out to be the original farmhouse....so if you see the house from the street, it looks MASSIVE, (and it kinda is), but in the back in the small original farmhouse. If neighbors can make or break a house, we're blessed with the absolute best, (which is why we all stay here!).
  11. That Olds is 'over-the-moon-cool'!
  12. I was raised next door to a dairy farm.... out where the school buses didn't run.... but I lived 'in the suburbs' most of my adult life.... but while I'm less than 2 miles from downtown here in Danville, I live out with the chickens and the goats. Maybe my living situation for the last 30 years would best be described as "Living in the Exurbs".
  13. My son recently got his Greandfather's 1968 Lincoln Continental. It's been in storage since my F-I-L passed in 1980. So, I learned "Hot Rod Lincoln" to commemorate the event! (He'll be selling his 1968 Cadillac Sedan DeVille to make room for the Loncoln).
  14. Not only that....but it's hard to get decent footing when sliding around in human feces!
  15. Thank God you have him...and he has you. I understand your dad's wish to stay at home rather than a warehouse, I mean care facility. I certainly want to leave my home feet-first with a toe-tag on. Merry Christmas to you, your family and your dad.
  16. I've found I mold pretty quickly myself these days! I've left instructions for when I pass....no cremation, no embalming.... just throw me in the cheapest box you can buy and bury me, (in The National Cemetery). I suspect I'll mold faster than those tortillas from a decade ago!
  17. Your wife is a real keeper! Good on her....and CONGRATZ!
  18. To me, at least, it means there is something I shouldn't do, or don't want to do...but I'm going to do it anyway. if you look at all the examples given, that's pretty much the way the phrase is used. Distinguishing the difference from saying "I'm going to the store"; "I don't want to go, but I'm going to go ahead and go to the store." At least that's the way I use the phrase.
  19. we spend half our lives collecting things and the other half getting rid of it.
  20. Thanks for clearing that up.
  21. BTW, I HAVE A ā€˜79 Dove. I LOVE it
  22. surprised that they list the Hummingbird scale length as 25-1/2ā€
