  1. I've found I mold pretty quickly myself these days! I've left instructions for when I pass....no cremation, no embalming.... just throw me in the cheapest box you can buy and bury me, (in The National Cemetery). I suspect I'll mold faster than those tortillas from a decade ago!
  2. Your wife is a real keeper! Good on her....and CONGRATZ!
  3. To me, at least, it means there is something I shouldn't do, or don't want to do...but I'm going to do it anyway. if you look at all the examples given, that's pretty much the way the phrase is used. Distinguishing the difference from saying "I'm going to the store"; "I don't want to go, but I'm going to go ahead and go to the store." At least that's the way I use the phrase.
  4. we spend half our lives collecting things and the other half getting rid of it.
  5. Thanks for clearing that up.
  6. BTW, I HAVE A ‘79 Dove. I LOVE it
  7. surprised that they list the Hummingbird scale length as 25-1/2”
  8. Cunningham posted the link: cunningham26 Members 873 LocationBoston Posted yesterday at 08:19 AM (edited) They're all in the Gibson shop but brace yourself for sticker shock and pray Sgt. Pepper doesn't find this thread. It seems really weird that this designer is all about american iconography and style, particularly that in the american south, but all the actual pieces are made overseas. I wouldnt pay $600 for a western shirt but certainly wouldnt pay that for a western shirt made in china alongside a levis shirt that retails at a tenth the cost.
  9. I checked out the Gibson Store... I really don't need anything...but there's some good stuff there. The "Playing Stool" was interesting. I have a couple of the short ones.... I got one at GC because I had a gift certificate and it was only $39, (so it was free). Later on, I bought another one for $39. The ones in the Gibson Store are $125.....because of the Logo.....that you sit your butt on. Mine just have to "Star" on the seat....and I had to assemble them myself....but MUCH cheaper than the Gibson ones!
  10. I like the Hummingbird blanket...but not $300 worth!
  11. I agree....despite the fact that there are some EXTREMELY talented musicians out there....young ones!
  12. I TRY to keep my politics and the artist's politics separate. I think Garth is a puke...but I recently learned "Thunder Rolls". I was never a big Jackson Browne fan...until I heard him just strum an acoustic guitar and sing....I even learned "Before The Deluge", an environmental protest song....it's just a good song! The same goes for Kid Rock.... was never a big fan....but I heard him play an acoustic guitar and sing.....and now I like his stuff MUCH better. There are some artists I just can't listen to without revulsion due to their preaching politics or whatever, (Roger Waters comes to mind as Sarge pointed out). Bruce Springsteen is a puke, but I recently put an arrangement of "Pink Cadillac" together. I just like good music.... either the way the song is constructed or the words....can be either or both.
  13. Interesting video....I thought I was gonna like the song more than I did.
  14. Thanks….I’ll see what I can find out.
  15. Ya…..good to know. I do not know which model they are. They’re not marked on top, so I’d probably need to pull one out to find out. I just think they sound outstanding….I’ll probably record “Hot Rod Lincoln” next week…I hope my hands can do Justice to the riff!
  16. Thanks... I read up on them some.... glad to know when I unplug the guitar the battery drain stops....I was worried about that! Yes... it's a 24-freet neck.... once I set the intonation, I really like it.....MUCH better than the Strat. Only problem I'm having is I keep hitting the volume knob when I play....I have to really watch my right hand. The "Rockabilly" riff on "Hot Rod Lincoln" is okay (I do it with hammer-ons and pull-offs rather than straight), but in between verses I play an E6, (kinda sounds like a car horn), and that's when I hit the volume knob.
  17. Who here has experience with EMG pickups? I bought a custom made guitar (from a kit) from my cousin's estate, (probably 10-12 years ago). I never played in much because the intonation wasn't set right, and sounded bad once you got past the 3rd fret. I recently took the time to set the intonation on it, and put a battery in it for the EMG pickups and I've found I really like the way they sound. I'm putting together an arrangement of "Hot Rod Lincoln" (because my son is getting his grandfather's 1968 Lincoln that's been in storage for over 40 years), and as I 'palm-mute' the strings to play (my version) of Bill Kirchen's riff it really pops! I don't hear much about EMG pickups....do they have a down side, (other than having to replace the 9V battery every once in a while?).
  18. You can go to Canada on a "Passport Card". I carry mine in my wallet, just like a driver's license. You can visit Canada, Mexico, Caribbean Islands and Bermuda without your passport.
  19. Hard to remember back 50+ years....but my first "real" amp was a Fender Vibroverb, it was 1963, I believe. I got rid of it when I switched over to playing bass, and I got a 1965 Bassman and added a 12" Showman speaker box. Amp is gone now. I sold everything, and had no amp until I bought a 1971 Fender Showman Reverb Head from a guy at work. I later got a 2 X 15" bottom from a friend. When I inherited my dad's early 70's Princton Reverb amp, I had it reconditioned, (new speaker, tubes, chassis rebuild), so while doing that I had the Showman amp gone through also, and put in 2 "New-Old Stock" JBL's in the speaker box. I got a solid state Bassman amp back about 2006 or so....still have it. I got a Laney HC25R and an Ibenez IBZ10 from my cousin's estate. Laney hooked up to the keyboard in the music room, and the Ibenez I use for practice when I'm in the kitchen. I also have a mint-green Fender Super Champ X2 that lives in the living room behind the piano (because the piano is so loud). So, a total of six amps still in the house, (not counting the PA system, or the Pig-Nose amp).
  20. I really like the Gold Grovers on my J-50. Far easier to turn. I have the original 3-on-a-plate Klusons on my Jubilee, and they're fine even though the guitar is very old and abused, they work just fine. I have the mini-Grovers on the 12-String.... the headstock is large enough to land a small plane on, but I never noticed it being 'out of balance' for me.
  21. He was gifted with a great set of pipes! And he had girls we could only look at in magazines!
  22. He may have been a criminal every day.....but I don't think he was common!
  23. What a great story....and a beautiful life! Speaking of "everybody was terrible", I was in a pretty popular band.... a friend of mine booked a dance at a high school, but he had no band. I knew nothing about this until the day before the scheduled gig....he came to me and told me what he did....and that he had found a drummer, a guitarist and he would play bass, but they didn't know any songs....and he BEGGED me to come play with them! No practice, and I didn't even know half the guys in the band. Anyway, SOMEHOW we made it through a 3-hour dance.... the kids didn't seem to mind. Recently, I was talking with a girl who was at that dance and said she had no idea we sucked! As a kid I always wanted to be a business man...my dad was a truck driver, and I wanted a white-collar job...never even thought about being a musician. So, I had a 'day job' for 53 years, (I don't count my years working in the music store...those were fantastic years in my life!). Anyway, I made a good life for me and my family....I married a girl who never saw me play on stage or in a group until 2007 when a book on SF Bay Area Bands was released.
