  1. Looking forward to a verdict and a song. Lars
  2. I relly like that percussive style on the guitar. Great lyrics too! Lars
  3. Lovely song Anne! Lars
  4. I somehow managed to miss this one. Very nicely done! Lars
  5. I have seen that photo before, but can't remember the circumstance. Was it during the book tour? Very cool, either way. Lars
  6. I stumbled upon Depp as a musician by accident a few weeks back and liked what I heard. I don't care if his day job is as a janitor, brain surgeon, or famous actor. I found clips of him sharing stages with Paul McCartney, Jeff Beck, Slash, and Eddie Vedder to just name a few. Being famous surely opened a few doors for him, but if he was a total fraud and only a middle aged wannabe rockstar, he would not be invited back on stage by guys like that. To each his own, but here are a few more things I liked…despite the questionable wardrobe choices… 😀 Lars
  7. Jeff Beck is on tour right now in England, supported by Johnny Depp. I have heard a few poor youtube phone recordings of the song Hedy Lamar below from the tour, but yesterday a studio version was released and I LOVE it. I’m not sure but I believe it’s written by Depp. A surprising collaboration, to say the least. They are releasing an album in July, and it’s going to be interesting to check out. Studio version… Live version from last night… Lars
  8. Beautiful, Anne? Really beautiful! Lars
  9. Yes, it can be done on an acoustic, but it takes a little longer to get the vibrations going (using electric guitar strings should help). By the way, I ran across this surprisingly great cover of a famous e-bow song. Lars
  10. Many manufacturing companies have been suffering all kinds of material supply issues, due to Covid and more lately the war in Ukraine interfering with world trade. The economy is truly global these days and supply chains are interconnected. I bet the change in tuners is due to some kind of supply issue. Lars
  11. Yep, and it can sound many different ways depending on what I’m looking for. This was played on the bridge pickup of a Tele with quite a bit of gain and a hint of delay from two pedals, into a clean small 5w Fender amp. I then stuck the ETL Myrtle mic in front. It literally took me longer to figure out where on the fingerboard the notes I wanted to play are, than playing and recording the passages. This is a tool I will definitely use on more songs. Thanks for listening! Lars
  12. I ended up buying an e-bow, or to be more specific the Joyo Sustainer (same type of device but about half price). Turns out it was very, very easy to use and it can turn out all types of tones and sounds. It is going to be very useful for me in adding backgrounds to my acoustic songs, without having to learn new instruments. I like it a LOT! Here is an example where I added it in the background to one of my older songs. Lars
  13. I remember this one from a while back. I think this version is more mellow perhaps? Either way, I like it very much! Great story! Lars
  14. Nah, was just hinting at the fact that a Gibson Les Paul is a signature guitar. Some leave a bigger mark than others. Lars
  15. I kind of agree, Murph. If I bought this guitar, one of the first things I would do is to remove the label with the sig. I did exactly that on my 2012 Sheryl Crow SJ, not because I think she’ll turn into a raving lunatic terrorist anytime soon, but because I have no connection to her, her guitars, or her music. Same with this new one. Lars
  16. This one looks very good! https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Guitar/ACCXVV34/Nathaniel-Rateliff-LG-2-Western/Vintage-Sunburst Lars
  17. I did a new multitrack version of the song, changing a bunch of things. I switched from using a Martin to a Gibson! I changed the key, added new chords to create some space. I added a little riff, an organ, and some percussion. Sounds much closer to my intention now. Lars Edit: just used a new toy that came in the mail. I added electric guitar with an E-bow to the choruses.
  18. I like it! Very emotional and sad story. You tell it very well. Lars
  19. Thanks a lot! I kind of like the tune myself. The lyrics mean a lot to me, but the performance is not great. I'm working on that along with the addition of a few new chords. We'll see what happens… Lars
  20. Fitting a string in an unslotted bridge and then putting a slotted pin in the same hole with the slot facing away from the string should be impossible . The only way the hole would be able to hold both the string and the backward pin at the same time would be if the hole was severely oversized. This would be a bad thing. Also, ramping refers to changing the angle of ONLY the very last bit of the slot closest to the bridge, in order to have about a 45 degree break angle over the saddle. It can be done on BOTH slotted and unslotted bridges, because it only determines how the string travels from the saddle to the hole, not how it continues through the hole to the other side. Hence, a bridge can be slotted but not ramped, or ramped but not slotted. However, if you go through the trouble of slotting a bridge, you might as well improve the break angle by adding a little bit of a ramp. It is very easy to do. Another very easy thing to do is to get a reamer for the holes, which has the same angle/slope as the pins, and ream the holes. Usually the holes are straight and the pins are sloped. A cone shaped pin in a straight hole will wobble when pushed, leaving a gap at the bottom. So reaming the holes to get the same degree of slope as the pin will make the pin sit tight in the hole, and it will also make sure the pins are deeper so they don't stick up too much above the bridge. I like to tinker, so I ream, slot, and ramp all my guitars and put in solid pins. It just feels good 😊 Lars
