  1. Well firstly its not really a problem at all... I just wouldnt pay that much just for a guitar.. I dont actually care if people want to buy them, we are just discussing it. And actually thats why I started making guitars in the first place. I really wanted a Gibson with a P90 at the neck and humbucker at the bridge which Gibson have only made a few of and there was nothing else in the line that had that so thats exactly what I did.. Made my own 😄 But that in itself doesnt stop 50k for a guitar being bonkers if anything re-inforces the fact that its a crazy price cos I know exactly how much it cost to build a guitar.
  2. Ha.. I was looking at the Gibson page and saw this guitar.. I reckon thats what he is playing. So I was sort of right I reckon, a replica 64 335 Custom 1964 ES-335 Reissue, Bigsby, Custom Made Plate, Murphy Lab Light Aged, Vintage Burst | Gibson
  3. Well I hate to be one of those.. But I do think the prices are absolutely crazy. Imagine what you could buy with that money like a really nice car... I donno.. Im sure they will stupidly all sell out too. Its just a mad world when a guitar cost $50k. I dont care whos signature is on it or if Tom Murphy worked on each one himself.. Still no where near worth 50k.. Madness I tell you. The profit margins on these must be crazy.
  4. Whats to say.. Even without looking I know it will be ridiculously expensive.. Well way more than I would ever spend on a guitar anyway.. They are cool instruments but very niche..
  5. You know, I never really thought I would say this but I miss the Henry Juszkiewicz days.. Up until the last five years or so when he went around buying up random electronic companies and tried to turn Gibson in to a "lifestyle" brand. But I always got the impression he did actually care about the guitars and getting lower end models in the hands of young players...
  6. Yeah. I donno. Slash I would imagine just does what he wants and uses the guitars he wants. I was looking to see what sort of model 335 he was playing and it looked a lot like an original 1964 custom in which case he is paying tribute by using a period correct instrument on the track as it were. Now, do I think that Gibson would see that as an opportunity. Well yeah, I guess thats why I asked in the first place but it sorta seems inevitable.
  7. Well apparently outside of the US, Japan is Gibsons biggest territory.. They have often released stuff that only gets released over there. Some really interesting stuff too over the years like the Tak Matsumoto double cut.
  8. You may be right about the Jessica. I saw this on Youtube.. Its an odd interview as he has an interpreter which isnt whats odd, just that they usually cut that sort of stuff out.. At one point he waits so long for her to translate that he gets bored and picks up the guitar while he waits 😄
  9. This is what happened to the guitars one of the last times they tried to shake things up and do something more modern.
  10. Well no.. But in terms of what Gibson sell.. Its just what they want to do, so they do what they want. In 2015 Gibson did something that totally blew up. It was the year the put robot tuners on every guitar and had a wider neck with metal zero fret nuts. Now, some of those changes were actually kinda cool and did update the Gibson line up. And let me tell you I have never seen such a negative response maybe after the Firebird X fiasco. Honestly when ever they try to innovate people complain that "thats not a real Gibson" and when they stick to what they know people call them boring and same old same old. So in the end thats why I think they stick to what they do. Fender have tried it a few times too, again. they all failed. So I have to say. No matter what it is people are telling you they want. In the end they all come back to the classics. And if that is something someone doesnt want there is PRS, Ibanez. Yamaha, Gretsch ect who all provide a range of different styles and more modern appointments than Gibson. As well as there being more decent cheap end guitars than there has ever been before (like Harley Benton who I really dont understand how they make guitars that cheap). When I started in 2012, the market was totally different and there was room for other makers. These days, I feel the market as you say is way over crowded. So just give up, no.. But you want to talk about being realistic. The fact is theres more guitars than ever before and a lot of them are better quality than ever before (the cheap end ones). But also how many other companies can sell a guitar for 30-50k and get away with it. When I say they all sell, im talking about the high end stuff which is exactly what Gibson concentrate on these days. It is a bit sad, but what you gonna do? The shareholders need their bonuses.
  11. Well there is no one to really speak to on here about it. Im fairly sure Gibson will have their own R+D department but I guess thats who you would want to talk too. I have been making my own guitars on and off since about 2012 now. I have realised that it seems that when you make guitars that dont conform to peoples expectations that there is only ever going to be a limited market for that. Its why Gibson and Fender are still the two biggest companies. And both companies pretty much rely on their history to sell guitars. Its what they do and when they do try and make something new/modern or just different it generally doesnt sell well and gets panned. It seems when it comes to their gear, a lot of electric players are very conservative. And both have tried over the years for pretty much all of it to fail. So they stick to what they do. The prices go up and up and crazy as it seems they keep selling. And they seem to be going further in that direction as Gibson seem to be getting rid of their lower end models and that space is now being taken up by the higher end Epiphone models (which to me are ridiculously priced just for having Gibson electronics in them. I think that new Epi Firebird is something like $1800.. For a frikken Epi made in the same place as all the others. So Gibson.. Probably wont be interested at all. You would be better off starting your own guitar company if you think your designs are that good.
  12. Ha, Damn.. Thats so true... I am old its confirmed ......
  13. When you go to get a hair cut and for the first time they ask.. Do you want your eyebrows tidied up... 😮
  14. Also does this mean that we are going to soon see a Slash signature 335 ?
  15. There is a track list of whats on the album The Pusher (feat. Chris Robinson) Crossroad Blues (feat Gary Clark Jr.) Hoochie Coochie Man (feat. Billy Gibbons) Oh Well (feat. Chris Stapleton) Key To The Highway (feat. Dorothy) Awful Dream (feat. Iggy Pop) Born Under A Bad Sign (feat. Paul Rogers) Papa Was A Rolling Stone (feat. Demi Lovato) Killing Floor (feat. Brian Johnson) Living For The City (feat. Tash Neal) Stormy Monday (feat. Beth Hart) Metal Chestnut
  16. At rock/blues.. Jimi was still the best though 😄 (or at least most influential ) More proof from the pros
  17. Cool... They start off by just trying to race the two but realise quite quickly that you cant really compare the two. So instead they go on to try and film a lap with the drone following.
  18. One of the other things about Hendrix... He died.. So we never really will know what could have been. BUT. A lot of the 60s/70s rock stars went really pants in the 80s.... The great legends struggled in the new electric sound that was now popular and between that, heavy metal, hair metal and rap there wasnt any space for these now aging rockers. Would Hendrix have done the same? Or would he have stood the test of time constantly releasing great music? Obviously no one knows. But thats also I think part of why he is so highly regarded. He wasnt around long enough to make those flops that a lot of them did in the 80s. And that is I guess one of the most remarkable things. With the Experience he only made three studio albums yet just those albums themselves have influenced more players than almost anyone. It was quite a height to reach in such a short space of time and I dont think anyone else has quite reached that level. I also agree, players like Buckingham get overlooked. I remember how blown away I was when I first saw this. What a sound from just one man and a guitar.
  19. Well cars have advanced.. Guitars... Hmmm, not so much. Jimi was playing on the same thing everyone else was and even today have we really surpassed the guitars of the 50s? If anything people seem to want to get guitars as close as they can to 50s and 60s guitars. Yet the music he made and his style of playing, no I dont think that has been surpassed. Of course there are way more technical players and faster players. But that doesnt necessarily make them better musicians. Like you could say that Steve Vai is a better player than Hendrix and in many ways that is correct. He played for Zappa which in itself says a lot. But do I prefer Steve Vais albums just cos he is technically a better player.. Nope.. Jimi was the whole package and I dont think there has been anyone quite like him. Stevie Ray was close but if there had been no Hendrix to inspire him, would there ever even have been a SRV? So maybe these polls (which are pointless I agree) should actually say "Most influential guitarist"?
  20. Yes I think Jimi was incredible too... I think its easy to forget how young he was when he died. He played guitar for 12 years and became a legend.. And what he did in the time he had was astonishing. If you want proof from a pro..
  21. I dont know about best but I dont think there has been another guitar player who has ever been quite as animated as Angus.. I was always taken with this clip where he moves so much all the time throughout a show that he needs to stop and take some oxygen in to keep going.. And whats mad is he doesnt play a single bum note throughout.
  22. Actually scratch that.. I looked closer, its between Oxford Circus and Tottenham Ct Rd
