  1. This is just a simple fine job. I feel like I am listening to the Avett brothers singing Dylan. And that’s a compliment
  2. Roger… your voice. Man oh man. Pulled off Roy. Nice Job!
  3. When I opened the post, I thought it was a post about how EM was debating a leather guard… uncharacteristic! and I too noticed the dove. Oh well. This is what it looks like, when doves cry.
  4. Congrats… and bummed I can’t see any pics.
  5. It’s a heavy guitar with rosewood backing. I owned one before I ever discovered guitar forums. I bought it from a Sam Ash around 9-11. it is a nice guitar.
  6. As a part time gigger, I don’t bring my J45 TV out. I’ve already had my D15 damaged in an unpredictable fashion. i think nearly any guitar with a Baggs M1 sounds great live for old man rocker music. A neat choice is the Slash Epiphone with a Baggs Element VTC. Another is a cheap Eastmanesque $500 guitar like the E2 with a Baggs M1. Finally… the Fender Player Tele Acoustasonic! im trying the Fender out this coming Saturday at a gig.
  7. With a Hummingbird? 2015? searching through my emails in the cloud, I think 2012 found me with a Sheryl Crow CW, and 2014 with a Bird.
  8. I’ve owned a Gretsch Hound Dog, which I gave to Guitars For Vets. Very nice inexpensive ballpark instrument. and I owned a Goldtone Beard set up and bought by/from Paul Beard. The model was PBRCA. Real nice instrument.
  9. These were what I swapped for. i think my understanding of wafflebacks must be off. Also these are not Kluson but Grover
  10. I remember having a Standard at one point, with Grover Rotomatics. I swapped them for Kluson Waffle back tuner I think? But those are different than the new tuners. the Klusons were lighter than the Grovers. I did not detect any sonic change; it was an aesthetic change.
  11. One of my favorite TVZ tunes as well.. well done Roger…
  12. I’ve calmed down a bit from prior years, where I got worked up on a lot of specs and tonewoods. I custom ordered a specific Martin at one point with exact specs. What was I thinking? I don’t own it now… Sure I have some preferences- for example I like mahogany a crap ton. Now I am pretty open minded. I have played Taylors and thought the sounded great… like the AD17. And I really dig a $500 dread I bought from Eastman with a cedar top. I like that guitar more than their pricey models, and way more than the Gibsons I played last weekend. And my J45-TV is still amazing to me, and I’m glad I own it. Sitka vs Alpine vs Adi vs Lutz vs Ebony vs Eucalyptus vs Whatever…. I play it, and I know if I like the sound.
  13. Rob…. Nice! Excellent pitch up high! I can’t do that. The harmony box bugs me out too. Kewl. My buddy Mike, the guy I gig with, was friends with Levon. He recorded with him and spent more than one weekend up in that barn.
  14. I think it is pricey, and it is easy to use. You can’t slide the entire board though. It’s nice for lead work. To be honest I played with it for two weeks, and now my son has it; it was challenging and I didn’t stick with it. For me slide is very hard. It’s both hands, and it take work. Derek Trucks makes it look easy, but it’s anything but that. For me harmonica is like that too. my advice? Maybe get a $8 slide at first and crush you tube looking for lessons. If you stick with it and make progress, get the BMS.
  15. I have a Glass Rock slide, and I also have a black mountain ring slide, which my son has now. I like the black mountain slide a lot. Not traditional, but it opens up a lot of possibilities.
  16. Agreed Ben. why does she wear the glove?
  17. I would always go with a good dealer, even if you pay more. First off they will negotiate, so your price will be better. They will also set it up and never let the instrument leave the shop with a high fret, etc. I made the mistake of ordering a cheap Fender Squier Tele from Fender on sale, and direct. Ooooof. No setup. A hot mess. Warped Pickguard. Sat in a warehouse for a year. And they shipped it right out, without even examining it. The silver lining is that I learned to correct many issues with YouTube as my guide; instead of returning it I used it to practice modding skills. It just would have been easier and cheaper if I bought from Russo’s.
  18. I love satin finishes on guitars. I definitely thinks it helps tone. so I can buy one of these and it will sound better AOTBE. i dig?
  19. This is a fantastic cover. Great voice and the J is perfect.
  20. I liked this a lot. Great chords… and this doesn’t seem to be very easy to sing at all; this is not the 4 chord song! nice job.
