  1. I tried a few comparable amps like Laney, Blackstar, VHT and Rivera with similar spec's. Including a used BJR and a new one, I think the SR15 is a good competitor. It would be fun to compare then side by side.. One thing about the SR15, it seems to generate less noise than other amps, like when you stop playing and remove your hands the guitar.. Have to see how it holds up over the next few weeks.
  2. With the Gain on 2 1/2 I took the Volume up to 8, clean sounded very good with a little edge from the Gain. Then I stepped on an OD in my R5 and it just screamed without breaking up. It should handle anything a Blues Jr can like a bar or small club. Also with 1 watt selection you can tweak it down to bedroom level. So between 0 and 3 the Gain acts kind of like a presence control, up from there it starts to drive but 10 is a really good tube OD. Tone is very adaptable with 4 controls a Tone control and individual Bass + Mid + Treble controls. The spring reverb, like the Blues Jr very usable up to about 2, when very minor slap-back may appear. I still have only a few hours working with this amp, so far every thing is better than I expected.
  3. At the end of the day I was pleased to be able to dial in a good low volume tone with high sparkle and lows, using my SG with GFS Mean 90's. Looks like its time to put my Deluxe 900, never good at low volume, out to pasture...
  4. My SR15 (Stage Right 15w) came in a few hours ago, can't stop playing. It sounds great, very adjustable /controllable, looks a lot better than I expected... Can get a Deluxe Jr type sound. I played a lot of different tube amps over the last few weeks, the best sounding was a used Rivera that would have cost me about 3X what the SR did. I really like the way it sounds, its very easy to dial-in the right amount of presence for my pedals. Well I'm gonna go play it some more..... The MonoPrice SR15 is on sale again for $199.99
  5. Hmmmmmmmmmm.. Let Me Love You Baby - Buddy Guy Foxy Lady - Billy Gibbons
  6. I like the look of the new Casino. It may be too pricey for some Epiphone customers, but the Elite Casino always sold out. Think this is the first time for the Casino to have this headstock.
  7. I first saw Christine McVie as Christine Perfect with Chicken Shack in 1970, in Nuremberg. She was a Hot English Woman, as part of her act she pulled her heavy piano down on top of her while continuing to play. The stage hands ran out and tried to lift it off her, thinking she was pinned, while she swatted them away. They were finally shoo'd off by Stan Webb moving his guitar kind of like a machine gun.
  8. Those who forget the past are bound to repeat mistakes in the present. Even at my ancient station in life, I push the envelope at every chance I pick up my axe. I have always leaned on my guitars and they will still be around long after I am gone. 🙂
  9. Yes, living in the past. None of us are what we used to be. Grace and Stevie at their peak really caused a ruckus with the dreams of young men.. 🙂 I'm not what I was 20 yrs ago, more like my avatar now.
  10. I think if Grace asked to stop dreaming about Stevie you'd stall for a while to chase some rabbits..
  11. It got delayed, but its on the island, so I will get it Monday.
  12. You quote the song under your avatar which is why I mentioned the song Norwegian Wood in the first place..
  13. But Norwegian Wood condoms do help to put the song into context.. 🙂 I once had a girl Or should I say she once had me She showed me her room Isn't it good Norwegian wood? She asked me to stay And she told me to sit anywhere So I looked around And I noticed there wasn't a chair I sat on a rug biding my time Drinking her wine We talked until two and then she said "It's time for bed" She told me she worked In the morning and started to laugh I told her I didn't And crawled off to sleep in the bath And when I awoke I was alone This bird had flown So I lit a fire Isn't it good Norwegian wood?
  14. Did you know Norwegian Wood was a brand of condoms.. Isn't it good....
  15. I fell in love with Stevie when this album came out, for some reason...
  16. In the late 50's Englands economy was still recovering from the War. Frivolous things like guitars were not very high on the list for shops selling them and were expensive for the time. John and Paul's first guitars were pretty bad, Paul eventually restringing R-hand guitars for left and building his first bass from one of Johns guitars. Later, in Germany, he found a R-H Hofner Violin Bass that was fairly symmetrical making it easier to setup for L-H, then Hofner eventually provided a left hand version. George managed to secure better guitars like his first Gretch, that was on a different level from what John and Paul were using.. Anyway they overcame many obstacles and had no qualms about reworking their guitars..
  17. Yep. They have a lot of low priced stuff. Anxiously waiting for my SR 15w to arrive...
  18. The Japan or USA built Epiphone Elite series that is usually valued between $1000 to about $3000, depending on model like Casinos, were frequently copied. Andrey's Les Paul, may be a Standard model that came with Grover Tuners usually sold new for around $599 to $699 and should retain about 65% of that value depending on exact model. My 56 Les Paul Standard built at the Qingdao factory also has a stamped SN. My modded China Tele that used to say Fender Telecaster on the headstock, none of the original components were up to Fender standards. The Indonesian built Fender JA-90 Telecaster, that mine below was copy of, sells for about $900. But the wood is what makes it very desirable..
