  1. I was afraid they never make the 61 style SG Special again, but here it is and it has the much better looking original Epiphone solid body electric headstock.. Enjoy.... my modded 61 below..
  2. No, the headstock is much smaller than the Casino's but the same size as my LP's. I am excited about the return of the new headstock from earlier Epiphones like the 62 Wilshire reissue below. or the first headstock used on the Coronet that was introduced in 57..
  3. I like my German made Duesenberg Les Trem II's that just replace the stop bar and have about twice the range of Bigsby. The angled Trem bar holds in your desired dive position by set screws and swings easily out of the way. Admittedly I am a Trem addict, seems like we have had this same conversation several times before. My Trem collection below.. But if you are going for the look of the Sideways Vibrola and or Maestro Vibrola they are permanently mounted. Unlike the Vibramate with a Bigsby that can be taken off, but will require enough bridge height to work with the additional thickness of the Vibramate..
  4. Rabs very cool looking project.. Getting ready for may afternoon jam, trying to decide which guitars to take, hmmm haven't played my Explorer at outdoor volume through my new tube amp yet..
  5. Low tech adds can work as well, like leaving a 3X5 card on bulletin boards in places that musicians may frequent. Like music stores, pubs, community centers, universities, cheap places to eat basically any public place. Emphasizing that you are a singer guitar player wanting to form or join a band. Lots of groups are formed with vocals that are not so good and may be looking for an upgrade. Also a thing to consider is the ratio of really good guitar players to bass players is usually about 10 to 1, bass players have the odds stacked in their favor and one that can sing gets even more points. As a guitarist I have played in mostly rock bands, as a bass player I took my pick of project and working bands playing jazz, blues, rock and country etc.. But in truth I was never completely satisfied playing bass but met and learned from a lot of good people. Note.. I was 14 the first time I got paid to play, seems like another lifetime ago, I was a guitar player that had just bought his first bass.

    TV?

My worst winter was almost like that, Korea in 68 on the DMZ, if it got warm at all in the daytime the mud would freeze solid at night and our trucks would be stuck till we chipped them out. I was very grateful receiving those ugly Christmas sweaters that I wore under my uniform, spent a lot of time out doors. At times I used to breath in through a lit cigarette to keep my lungs from freezing.. I had a great time.. No TV though..
  7. I think capturing the spirit of the song is more important than nailing it exactly. Some of the things I play I have been playing for so long that additional pieces fall into place, like jamming a song, by accident something happens and oh thats what they did. Most of my energy has been directed at developing improv, probably from my early Blues background, influenced by Jimmy Reed or Delta Blues style..
  8. Epiphone introduced a very similar model in 2011 the Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 SG Special, they were only built during 2011. Interesting that the price of these was almost double of the 2020 model, in 2011 being a Custom Shop SG. There are a few minor differences like some of the hardware and this one having the clipped headstock. These are wonderful playing and sounding guitars. They came in Black, Arctic White, TV Yellow and Cherry. Sometimes these are called 61 Re-issues because Epiphone built them as close to the 61 spec as possible, including the 61 neck profile, electronics, Epiphone Classic P90's, Wilkinson 3 in a row rack tuners, Lightening Bar Bridge and even an antiqued selector switch knob. My 61 Epi SG Specials showing the old style 3 in a row rack tuners With a set neck the Beautiful SG Special with the new original Epi headstock its a whole lot of guitar at the 2020 price..
  9. Hmm, his biggest role playing a Frenchman, is he really a Stewart?
  10. I think they are both maybe a little hyper, I enjoyed hearing them both.. Speed isn't everything, an old blues player, on a hotel circuit, told me the most important part of the song is the space between the notes. I think your outline is on the right track for really nailing it. If you are able to put Stevies dynamics in you got it workin..
  11. Good to hear that you weathered the storm without too much damage and that you are still anatomically functioning correctly after retirement.
  12. If you are doing SRV most of the load is on you, not your average Blues player. Getting it down will take a lot of familiarity with SRV technique. I have been learning Eddies "Ain't Talkin Bout Love" since it came out and still finding things I missed.. Good luck... You might enjoy this Yana clip as her hands are visible through the whole song... I'm not sure how accurate she is, but it sounds like she on the right track..
  13. Ok... How is Big Bill and RCT doing?
  14. The cool thing I am reading here is that every one is experimenting and finding their own way.. There is such a plethora of effects out there its easy to get lost in the jungle. Bungle in the jungle well that's alright by me...
  15. My 97 Gibson Blues Hawk didn't fair very well here, but my Epi Blueshawk still looks great and for me a better guitar anyway.. Hmmm, looks like all my remaining guitars are from China, finally have no more Nitro.. 🙂 I just got my FRS back from the body shop from having its driver door replaced and all of its little dings repaired. Looks like a bran new car again.. 🙂🙂
  16. Sold my last Gibson today, my Gibson Blues Hawk, I won't feel bad anymore about bringing Nitro finished guitars to such a humid climate...
  17. Hmmm, I wonder how Navy Vet is doing..?

    TV?

Watching TV now.... Lake effect Ice Storm.....
  19. My new Slick 90's sounded great and was able to get a good Straty position 2 or 4 sound on mid position. The SR-15 keeps sounding better as the tubes burn in at higher volumes. Also running the Joyo analog Chorus and Delay through the effects loop. In general we had a great day....
  20. Walking the Runway - Stanley Clarke
  21. Hmm, you guys might like the other side.. Going to push it at my outdoor jam today..
