Epiphone Junkie

Hi, my name is Pete and I am an Epiphone junkie.

I was just perusing my walls and guitar stands and I realized that out of 6 guitars I have hanging on the wall and sitting on guitar stands there are 5 Epiphones and 1 Gibson. In the closet, in their cases are at least 2 more.

I just see no reason to pay a lot more for Gibsons when I like the way the Epi's sound and play. I admit that I have modified two Epi's with appropriate Gibson pickups, pots and switches.

Good Day to all!

Pete

Hi pete, I am also a bit of a junkie with 3 epiphones and I'm just about to get my fourth, an epiphone dot (not the dot studio) which I'm getting for a mere £100, that's about $165 which is very good deal.

I've owned in the past an epiphone les Paul standard, an epiphone SG, an epiphone dot, an epiphone casino, an epiphone supernova in man city blue and an epiphone PR100 acoustic. The casino I really regret getting rid of, I had removed the cherry finish and sanded it down to the bare wood and stained it, it was a beauty. I'm now left with a white 355, a 1962 Sheraton reissue in vintage sunburst and an EJ200 in natural. After the dot I'd really like another casino unless epiphone release something this year which catches my eye. As I'm sure you can see, I'm a bit of a hollow body freak!

Finally, don't worry about the addiction and where the hell are the pics? Ha

Hi Lengle!

My latest acquisition is a Riviera Custom P93 Black Royale. The more I play that the better I like it!

The pics are in the "Show us your Epiphones".

Have a large day!

I was looking at the riviera with mini humbuckers on eBay, not tried the P93 but they do look sweet.

I loved the look of the Riviera, but I was unsure of the need for three P90s. The more I muck about with that guitar, the more I realize that the center P90 can brighten the neck, or tone down the bridge pickup. Very handy, indeed!

I have become a big fan of P90s. Previously, the only guitar I had with a P90 was a 1956 ES-125. Love that sound!

I already have too many guitars with humbuckers.

Nice! Loving the gibby, that's a beauty!

Lengle:

That Gibson was a gift from my Dad when I was probably 16 years old (I am now 62!) with the provision that I not sell or pawn or give that guitar away whilst he lived. He is gone, the Gibson remains and shall so remain until I am gone...I think of him every time I play it! It helps that it plays and sounds wonderful!

A nice story and memory to go with it. What a great guitar that is.

Hey Crust!

I love that Riviera! Had to have it, could not live without it! Santa was good and brought it to me! Once I got the pole pieces set, it was good to go. Get all kinds of sounds, from jazz to rock to standards out of, mostly by adjusting the volume on the center pickup, which is on all the time!

Love the SG Pro, too! Good variation of sounds by splitting the poles on the pickups. I get the sound I like best by splitting the bridge pickup.

I know you will like that Riviera!

Thanks!

Every guitar has a story, and we just need to find out what it is!

Pete

Thanks Pete, I don't pick, they do! Some force wispers in my ear and I get this uncontrolable urge to.. what's that? Gotta go!!! Fenders are calling!! ;)

A pretty load of self-awareness is very useful for finding out the history of one's addiction. [biggrin]

When not playing, I keep my guitars 'n' basses in cases muting their strings, so I don't hear them calling anymore [scared]

Cap!

A good policy.

Inside me there is a skinny person, but I usually can keep him quiet by feeding him cookies!
