k-zoo sport
My grandfathers 1972 Gibson blue ridge had a rosewood saddle that I sanded down and replaced with bone. I'd like to find a replacement rosewood saddle. Anybody know where I could buy one?
j45nick
Are you talking about an adjustable bridge saddle insert like the one in the middle of this photo (which happens to have a bone insert in the rosewood saddle, but you can ignore that), or a conventional saddle that happens to be rosewood? k-zoo sport
Yes sir. Just like the one in the pic (minus the bone insert of course)
E-minor7
Think I saw 1 on the Bay not so long ago - don't know if it's still there. Sniff around. These are much more common than the ceramic dittos.
j45nick
Yes sir. Just like the one in the pic (minus the bone insert of course) I haven't seen a new version of these. You might ask Bob Colosi. He's closed for a few days after hand surgery. Colosi saddles The problem with buying these used is that the rosewood is so soft that the top of the saddle often has string grooves in it. They can also be split at the fragile little "ears" that fit around the adjustment screws. If you are going to the trouble of making a new one, you might consider ebony instead of rosewood. There are also brand new bone and ceramic versions of this saddle available. The ceramic ones replicate the original (1950's) adjustable saddles. j45nick
Where would I go to get a new version of this? Here's a link to an ebay seller: My link I know nothing about the seller or the product, so I can't comment on its suitability for your installation. There are other folks on this forum who have purchased similar aftermarket saddles, and they may be able to provide more insight. Are you completely missing the saddle, is it broken, or what? Boyd
I have a 1965 J-50 with the adjustable saddle and looked into various options awhile ago. I *think* this is also what you're looking for, but I'm not familiar with the Blue Ridge. Here are some links: Rosewood - http://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/guitar-bass-nuts-saddles/replacement-adjustable-rosewood-saddle-for-gibson-acoustic-guitars/ Bone - http://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/guitar-bass-nuts-saddles/replacement-adjustable-bone-saddle-for-gibson-acoustic-guitars/ TUSQ = http://www.graphtech.com/products/product-detail/pq-9016-00-tusq-gibson-style-adjustable-acoustic-saddle I have never purchased any of these, am happy with the original rosewood saddle on my J-50. :)

Check dimensions carefully. Some people here who used these reported the need for minor sanding or other fitting to get them to work in particular bridges. aliasphobias
Check with some of your local luthiers. Most probably have a drawer full. No offense to those who like the adjustable. I count myself as one...on the fence!?

E-minor7
Ordered a rosewood and a tusq. Thanks folks Why not go all the way and add the bone - it'll keep you amused till New Years eve.
Jesse_Dylan
I sure had a hard time finding an ebony saddle. I'm flush now with a block of african blackwood, some buffalo horn nuts/saddles, and I think something else too maybe... Just need to get my stuff in to a luthier to fit them. I suspect I might prefer something non-bone... maybe even tusq.
