TollTheHounds
Hello. I purchased an L6 (or similar) that has a SN that is “1 of 1”. Has anyone see a Gibson USA that has 1 of 1 instead of a serial number? I’m really curious about what I bought. The guitar is really well built and plays extremely well. It has Fralin P-90s and some other unique features for an L6. images: https://www.instagram.com/p/CS499fzBnBH/?utm_medium=copy_link
jdgm
https://www.instagram.com/p/CS499fzBnBH/ VERY interesting indeed. I have no idea...but it's mahogany by the look of the back compartment. Sprague cap too! There must be a story here......
TollTheHounds
Yeah. I emailed Gibson. I’m sure there aren’t too many 1 of 1 guitars. Maybe an employee guitar.
Eracer_Team
The headstock shape reminds me of a Japanese company in the early 80's named Vantage, also Heritage Guitars use a similar headstock. I can't see the whole trussrod cover Does it have 2 or 3 screws
TollTheHounds
@Eracer_Teamits got two screws. Are you saying that the headstock differs from the normal L6-s?
rct
Somewhat different headstock, but that could be because the Gibson is all wrong on yours. I had two of them, one very early version with block mop markers, later one with black dots. Where you have a pickup switch was a 6 way varitone, which may have changed on later L6ii. Your pickguard is all different. Probably the angle of the picture, but the upper bout doesn't look wide enough, L6 was a wide guitar. Doesn't mean it didn't start life as an L6-S, but it is definitely not as much an L6 any more as it is something else. "1 of 1" could easily be stamped on there by anyone at any time. rct

I’m a bit thrown for a loop because the guitar is really well built. It seems like a weird guitar to build a really nice fake from. It would probably be worth more as a custom piece than the real thing. I emailed Gibson to see if they had any thoughts.
rct
I hope they can help you. They have trouble with an actual serial number, this will probably confuse them to no end. rct

I’m guessing, if it’s real, that it is based off an L6 design but ok to only isn’t considered an L6. It’s hard to tell if it’s new or old. The pickups are new. Fralin didn’t start making pickups til 89. But the body looks older that 2010, or whenever they made the V2. whatecer it is, it plays sooooo well. It’s my favorite guitar. It reminds me a lot of my 1989 LP Jr double cutaway that I use to own. But with 24 frets.

TollTheHounds
I had a close look at the Gibson logo and it appears to be inlaid abalone.
