grampa
One of the first concerts I ever went to was Peter, Pail and Mary around 1963. The folk revival of the late 50's and 60's was my introduction to the guitar and P P & M were a big part of that. Song on, Mary Travers.
jaxson50
What is most striking, at least to me, when watching PPM is that no single member tried to over power the others. Mary had such a powerful voice with so much range she could have dominated Peter and Paul. But it was the harmony and the balance of the three, the blending of vocals, balancing them with the simple instrumentation and the over all harmony that was their vision and they delivered on that vision. In watching the old videos I am reminded just how primitive the technology was at that time. Very little mixing involved in live shows at that time. Today with voice synths anyone who can afford to hire a sound engineer can sound good. Watch Mary sing with Peter and Paul and check out how far away from the mic she positions herself when harmonizing with others. She had power and knew how to use it;
