daveinspain
I was looking at an add on ebay and was surprised to see that the EDS-1275 weighs in at over 12 lbs... Wow that heavier than an old Les Paul. It that normal??? Ok I know it has two necks and sets of hardware but 12.8 pounds seems heavy... ibis
Hi again Dave, I have never tried one on but I wouldn't be surprised if it weighed into the heavyweight division! I do have a 12/6 doubleneck, although it is a mere Korean jobby and it is 'bloody heavy' to coin a phrase! Not overly so, but all the doublenecks I've ever played have been well into double figures lb-wise. Its the territory. I'd advise a note from your chiropractor before you consider playing one for more than a few songs. That's no reason not to buy a 1275 of course! Just do the warm up exercises and work out a little first! Its not a Gibson, so please pardon the pic, but here's my doubleneck. For the record it plays and sounds great, the build quality is good and upper fret access is amazing. Its a player, not a collectible! Gibson CS
it is very heavy, unbalenced, and has bad upper fret acess on the 6 string neck but i wouldnt trade it for the world

Do people **** their pants and burst into applause when they see it?
NeoConMan
Do people **** their pants and burst into applause when they see it? My guess is YES on the applause part. Something about a double neck makes people think you are a God. Never weighed my Gibson, but 12 pounds is very likely. It's MUCH heavier than an Epi. Ian Martin
Well, even though it weighs a ton, it's not the kind of guitar you play for a three hour set, y'know? I'd still love to get one, but I don't think I could cough up the dough for a Gibson unfortunately.
Gibson CS
it is a def head turner there are a couple of songs that i use the 12 string for, but then i might just play the net song or 2 on the 6 string but usually, i play a little of both the 490/498 configuration really sounds good with the 12 string
NeoConMan
the 490/498 configuration really sounds good with the 12 string Funny you should say that. When I ordered it, I was ready to plop down $400 on two sets of 57 Classics, maybe a Plus in the 6 bridge. In my opinion, NOTHING beats a 57 Classic. When I got it, I was blown away. That weekend, my buddy with the Epi 1275 used it for his gig. EVERYBODY wanted to know why mine sounded so much "different" - even the other guitar player gave me a thumbs up. When I sat down, my wife told me "You CANNOT change those pickups...." End of story. It got Schaller straplocks and that's it. Like my 335, it needs nothing else. Ian Martin
When I sat down' date=' my wife told me "You CANNOT change those pickups...." [/quote'] Your wife notices those kind of things? Amazing. Or was it that she didn't want you to spend an additional $400 on pickups on a $4000 guitar? ;-)
NeoConMan
No, she really doesn't have a keen ear. When SHE noticed, I was sure I wasn't the only one who could tell the difference. Several people in the audience (drunks included) made their way to the stage to tell me it kicked serious ***. Now and then, the wife catches something good. She can't really tell you what guitar or amp she prefers, but she knows what she likes. (A bluesy Strat, pushing a clean Fender amp really hard makes her smile and say "I like THAT!") Gibson CS
I played the Epi version a few days ago. I dont know how heavy it was, but it was far too awkward to play for long periods of time. Looks cool though!

Something about a double neck makes people think you are a God. Some think Jimmy Paige who has double necks is a God. Don Felder who wrote “Hotel California” has a Gibson 1275. He maybe a God too. I’ve a double neck too. It’s so heavy when it was in its case my ex girlfriend was scared when I was picking that heavy case with the guitar inside. Hubert Temba
I used to own a Gibson SG which is lighter that most Gibson electric guitars. Since the Gibson 1275 is a hybrid of some sort of the SG, can they make a lighter 1275 to reduce any trips to the chiropractor?

Also, chambering would likely result in some serious neck dive. If I wanted to swap to a 12 string sound quickly, I'd prefer to stomp on a switch & for digital cheat.
