What are (were) those guitars like? Were they any good?

They're nice guitars' date=' great necks, sort of the Epiphone version of the SG. Thin body, less than 1 1/2", mahogany slab.

Since the run of Lennon reissues seems about to be sold out' date=' a Macca signature reissue looks to present Epi with the opportunity to bring another similarly priced (and quality) instrument to market. There's probably an audience who would buy a reissue like that for its collectable potential, another audience who would buy for nostalgic or sentimantal reasons, and another audience that would buy to get a vintage spec instrument with a Bigsby.

I heard that they're going to issue another 1,965 Revolution and 1965 Casinos... Wasn't through "official" channels, though, so I can't vouch for the veracity of the information... Anyone else hear anything about it?

Musicstore in Cologne, Germany is selling Wilshire in white and cherry, for 177 euros ($260)! A german friend called them and told me that they have 60 in each color. So far, they are the only ones selling these in Europe, maybe they got the same kind of deal as music123 did a while back. They couldn't say if there will be more available. I should be playing my cherry Wilshire next monday.. O:)/

Another friend order one to the US and told me it cost about $280 with shipping...

I had one that looked a lot like this one back in the 70s. It was a natural finish with a white pick guard and a maple neck, but it didn't have the tremolo. It was a nice guitar from what I remember. The thing I didn't like about it was that it had gold hardware, but it was a sharp looking guitar. I guess I really didn't know what it was called until I saw some of you pics. Thanks.

The red Wilshire on that European website looks AMAZING! Even the whgite one, and I'm not partial to white guitars, looks REALLY nice! I wonder when we'll be getting them here in Canada....or when one of your nifty internet stores down south will start stocking them...

I bagged one the white chinese wilshires from music123...I might hafta bag a cherry one from the Gur-mans...

I got lucky as my white one was in great nick and played well (no issues even after 1.5 years!). I heard there were some bad ones and many were damaged in shipping.

Heheh... Yep' date=' you got it.. I'm free as bird! (Just don't tell my girlfriend I said that!) And unfortunately, I'm far too acquainted with the dynamics of GAS... (I was just being facetious in that last post...) But if I don't stop buying Epis, I'm never gonna have the money for my upper-scale GAS![/quote']

Yeah, and those "upper scale" objects of our GAS are getting more and more "upper scale"

(as in priced into the stratosphere) all the time! Especially Gibson! Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I asked Epiphone and this was their response after a week of "research"

Hello,

Thanks for your patience! Those models are still considered in the development phase, so we have no definite information to release at this point. We will post information on the website if and when information is available: www.epiphone.com Thank you for the inquiry.

Interesting....I sometimes doubt the info the phone reps give you. Case in point, look what I just found in at epiphone.com/press under Independent dealers:

WILSHIRE

Zerostreet

That red wilshire is one of the chinese models with regular humbuckers that have been available for a couple years now. They have been sold by Music123 (i got mine in June 06), and more recently at a couple german stores. The white one is currently available @ musician's friend.

I don't think they are related to the reissues mentioned in the Guitar World article, because the article specifically mentions all the "batwings" (wilshire crestwood & coronet) and these chinese guitars were already being made- 2 years before the publication.

Only epi really knows I guess
