Ok here are promised pohots, I placed my thumb right next to it so you can make opinion about it. I took pictures by 1st fret, 12th fret, and both guitars together next to each other.

I dunno boys, I see a definate difference between the two, jeez, the '60's almost looks like an Ibanez neck next to the baseball bat-like '50's. Mine's got a great big 'ol neck like that '50's job.

Yes it looks each model has little different neck beacause I had 98 Standard which was 50s neck and It was much thicker than 50s on my Custom right now

Customs and Custom Shop necks are different...

this has been talked about a lot, but here's the executive summary:

in order of decreasing thickness, here are the necks:

R2-8>R9>R0>Custom>USA 50s>USA 60s> LP Classic

there can be some variation and if i'm mistaken, someone chime in...but i think thats close.

and for the record, if anyone turns down a "the one" guitar because it is a 50s neck and not a 60s, that person is an idiot.

there is a difference between my Historic and my Standard (50s). the difference between my Standard and my Classic in terms of play ability and feel is negligible.

People worry waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much about the 50s and 60s neck. if you can play one, you can play the other. if you turn down a great guitar because it has the "wrong" neck size, you're an idiot.

You really have to play them to see which one feels right in your hands. I played many 50's and 60's neck Les Pauls when I was picking out the one I wanted. The 50's neck just felt better to me.

There is a difference at least to me there was.

a huge difference? come on. you guys act like you playing them is night day.

maybe the 50s is too big if you have hands like an infant.

haha, now i'm being cranky. get a Historic and then you can ***** about the neck.

i like guitar necjs as fat and chunky as they can get... i find those slim taper necks a little unconfortable... and of course, have you tried those Ibanez wizard necks? i couldnt play a note on those... and they are supposed to be that way to make shredding easy... i am more confortable shredding on a chunky 50s neck...

Hey guys' date=' I need a pic of like the side on view of a neck just to get an idea of how thick the neck is. How much difference is there between 50's and 60's?

Thanks![/quote']

It really depends. All necks very quite a bit in size. Some 50's necks are very chucky and thick, some 50's necks feel more like a 60's neck, and others that are somewhere in between a 50's and 60's neck. With that being said I don't believe there is enough difference for you to be able to distinguish a necks size based on a photo. Some people have a hard enough time making the judgment even when they've already played the guitar. For example I had my LP Standard ( w 50's neck) setup a few years ago and guitar tech swore it had a 60's neck.

Its true...Its a trade-off.

I find the 60's neck great for fast runs, but my hands and fingers tire quicker.

The fatter necks take a bit to get used too, but I have more playing stamina

and less hand cramping.

I do prefer the 60's slim.
