SlagJones Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Lookie what the UPS man brought today. Epiphone Les Paul Studio Alpine White With it's little bro Epi Special II Antique Ivory
captmidnight Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Congrats on the new guitar, I am sure you will love the Studio...I have the worn brown colored Studio and after a little set up it plays like a dream...and even sounds good with the stock pick ups (being uncovered or wound a little brighter). SlagJones Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 I'm liking it! It feels real nice and has a beefier sound than the Special II, as expected. It is on the heavy side but I like that. When you pick it up, it's substantial, not a toy, a real instrument. The body is close to 2 inches thick. It's a clean guitar but some quality control issues on the fret board near the neck pickup. Sorta looks like it was rubbed pretty good with some medium grade steel wool or something. Bugged me a little at first but it doesn't affect playing and I don't think it's worth the hassle of an exchange and there is no guarantee the replacement would be better. Would you concur? It's an EE serial number. I'm thinking about taking off the pickguard. I am really happy with it. Just a tad disappointed in Epi's QC, it's not a B-stock or at least not advertised as one and no stamp signifying a b-stock. With the price hikes on other models, I would hope that Epiphone's QC would go up equally.
stan 58 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Nice Mr. Jones! Hey my Gibby needed to be buffed a little no biggy! Stan.
Whitmore Willy Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 HNGD Looks like a keeper to me. I always have liked the Studios As far as any rub marks on the fretboard, they can't be too bad. They don't show at all in the pictures. When you change strings for the first time just condition the fretboard with a small amount of lemon oil. I like pickguard on. That's just me.
SlagJones Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 The lighting doesn't allow my camera to show it, but it is fairly significant. That being said it's still a keeper. Call it character, call it mine!
ef_in_fla Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I'm thinking about taking off the pickguard. YES. I always recommend that. In fact I wish all Les Paul makers would just leave them off and let people put them on if they want.
FrankS1281734010 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 i've always wanted to get a white studio and then put gold hardware/pickups in it.
SlagJones Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Contacted the dealer and they are gonna refund me a little off the price due to the scratching on the fretboard. That makes it an even better deal! I'm cheap like that.
