ButchCassidy
Epiphone Les Paul Signature Have I just been living in a hole? They look pretty cool.
twiggy
same here... never seen such thing before. Starting to think that Epiphone website is way too thin... should have some kind of history page with all the models released in the past including such weirdos as this one. Don't you think so? ButchCassidy
That would be cool. It would probably make the epiphone forum nearly obsolete though:-({|=
aharps
Basically an epiphone jack casidy bass but the guitar version then? Would be nice to have the history of epiphone but as it wouldnt be of an financial benefit i cant see why they would bother. Seems like a great project for someone though, like are boss area website with all the old pedals.
ButchCassidy
Seems like most people that have epiphones are very impressed and think they're of good quality. Why not make the name stand out as a classic like gibson or fender have? Epiphone has the history IMO. I guess it's because most of their guitars are sg's and les pauls and therefore "copies" of Gibsons. Plus they probably don't want to divert any attention from Gibson. Lol, i have to much epiphone pride. But I really wish they would put more emphasis on making their own models instead of "cheap gibson copies" and bringing back some of their old ideas. I thought the wildkat was really cool for this reason. I'm sure epiphone has all the info of their history and the answers to all our questions, but would never post it or inform us. TWANG
I've wanted one of those ever since I saw John Hiatt on PBS with a guitarist playing one. I think his was a Gibson. It may have been an epi, it had a gold top. I like epis unique models. But I like their copys, too. I think the price is absurd on this one. I'd pick that model over the wildkat or the 335 lines.... Ron G
A friend has one of the genuine Gibson LP Sigs, circa 1974. Gold top, low-impedance pickups, nice guitar. Pretty rare, worth at least 5 grand.
Stig
It was a Gibson Les Paul model, and the one that the bass was based on. I saw a couple of these at a giant Daddy's Junky Music warehouse clearance once in gold, and wish I'd bought one. I think they wanted like $300 for them. :-

I too, wish they'd concentrate more, on their own heritage, and bring back those models. The "Kats" were unique, that way. I especially liked the Alleykat and Wildkat. But, bring back the classic Riviera, too. Forget the "Slash" LP's...he didn't even play an "Epiphone!" It's ok to make a guitar, with those features, in the regular line...or as a special edition LP...without the endorsement. Bring back the "Zepher Blues Deluxe," instead! How many LP's do we need, Epi or Gibson, for that matter? If they want to make "signature" guitars...where's McCartney's Casino? He started that trend, in the Beatles. Lennon is most famous for it, because he chose to use is, almost exclusively, from Rubber Soul, on. But, it was Paul that bought the first one...HE should have a signature Epi, way before "Slashed!" Guitar Chico
But why'd they name it "les paul"? It doesn't look anything like a les paul. GC
TWANG
Come on you two. You know why they make gib copys.. as a way of introducing people to the les paul for one thing, at a price they can afford. I do agree with you about epis having their own personal guitars.. and sticking to them.. seems like so many good things they do get discontinued. Like that blues zephyr! sheesh, what a drool monster that is. Tell you what.. I don't think epi needs the elitist line.. I think they just need to upgrade certain models that truly deserve it, better electronics, better wood, maybe even plek one or two! I dunno what would work though... I'm not Jim 'Epi'! And you have to give the guy credit for keeping Epiphone alive and profitable as well.. I wouldn't object to Epi looking farther back in the past for signature models.. they had some players and endorsements that are sort of forgotten in the acoustic line, for sure, and I think people would dig that. And yeah. I do agree that having an epi signature from somone who never played one is kinda goofy.. but we know they'll sell those slash les pauls, again, luring young players into their design and hoping they stick with what they know for scale and sound ie: gibson next. I think there's plenty of room for compromise here. I wonder just how the temporary models work out, market wise.. something new now and then.. run for a short time.. then on to the next. Could very well be they sell them all pretty quickly. TWANG

johntrem
Michael Ward, guitarist for "Bringing Down The Horse" era Wallflowers used one. And as has been mentioned, Jack Cassidy used the bass version which, in turn, evolved into the Jack Cassidy Signature model.

TWANG[/quote'] I don't think epi should stop making lp's and sg's by any means, I just wish they would keep around some of their own stuff instead of discontinuing them all. For example: how mad are all of us going to be when there are no more wildkats? You know they're going away soon, it's just a matter of time... And who knows when they'll be back... Then discontinuing most of the elitists
bluesman345
"seems like so many good things they do get discontinued. Like that blues zephyr! sheesh, what a drool monster that is" (Twang) Epi has discontinued the '56 Goldtop, Zephyr Blues Deluxe and the Valve Standard amp (all of which I own). I don't know, but it kinda makes me feel special...
