fenrirlupus
i just changed the strings on the guitar and now something doesn't work... instead of hearing the guitar through my amplifier (or my computer) i get a hum (and that hum gets louder if i touch the strings, the bridge, tailpiece, switch, tuners... pickup covers... anything metal. help? EDIT: when i touch the cable... the metal part that's exposed (sorry, still working on terms...) ... it works. but i can't be touching this constantly when i play, but what could this be a sign of? (and how would i fix that?) EDIT 2: i tried an old string as an external ground... it worked...

fenrirlupus
actually, the cable works... i used a keyboard with it... could the ground wire for the bridge do it? (when i touch the bridge and the cable it works...)
lostindesert
You changed the strings, one at the time or all off at once? What else did you do to the guitar? Btw have you checked the switch, input jack for loose connections as suggested? How would changing strings disconnect the bridge groundwire? Check everything! Peter[/quote']i'm not sure, but i think it may have been loose to start out with... all were off at once... so i could clean the fretboard... (no, i diddn't get anything inside the guitar) the wiring kinda sucks... so i wouldn't be surprised if it's been loose the whole time and just came disconnected...
