Like I said' date=' buy more now. It will be an investment![/quote']

+1 on dat! I expect to be playing my AJ500RC foreverandever, but still looking forward to someone seeing it and going, "DUDE!!!!" in 20 or so years. And, of course, by then, after my fingers have all cramped up and my wife and I are looking for a better brand of dogfood in our retirement (HA!), perhaps the collector's value will kick in in some useful way!

Yeah, and, Dugly, +1 or 2 even--I want more, too! Now I'm wondering what I missed by not getting a small-body, possibly with mahogany--that'd be EF500M, if I'm not mistaken, for a finger-pickin' blues ax.

Also had a shot at an EF500RCCE that got away from me at a store, but then the very guitar showed up again in a local pawn shop. Still cherry condition, $500. WOOHOO! Hey, Charlie Brown, I can tell you where, if you're interested! And welcome to the acoustic side (or, as we like to think of ourselves, the "Light Side" as opposed to...well, you know! But I did find the Casino vs. G400 thread pretty interesting).

And, of course, as usual: BRING BACK THE BLUESMASTER!!!!!

You really make me want also to buy one more. At the local shop they have a DR-500RAVS, an AJ-500RC (standard 14-fret BUT with cedar top, I think one of the rarest Masterbilts, from 2005) and an AJ-500RC 12-fret too!

The best one is the AJ-500RC 14-fret. Sounds great both strummed and fingerpicked.

Mmmh...think I'll take another look today...

Right here's the deal in the UK. On my quest to score a AJ500m i found out the following today, as a local store had the UK Gibson rep on the other end of the phone whilst i waited.

The AJ lines are discontinued as are all the vintage sunbursts. Still knocking out the DR and EF lines.

Pity as i was awaiting my AJ500m, so have changed order to the dreadnought - can anyone comment on the differences between the two apart from the shoulders - cant get to play any over here as there are none in the uk apparantly. And if I order one from the US the warranty is useless over here. Humph. Tick tock tick tock.........

Hi -

To summarize the intel:

2 U.S. dealers/store reps. have said the entire Masterbilt line is to be discontinued;

1 U.K. dealer/Gibson store rep. says the AJ and all sunburst models are discontinued.

Anyone else with updates and/or additional info.???

Regards,

I will really be shocked if this is true. With the number of companies right now who are offering solid wood acoustics at affordable prices I think it would be a huge mistake on Epis part to not have a comparable line in the market.

Hey Epiphone...where are you? We need some decent (and accurate) information' date=' on this!

Epiphone is :- , never has.

I pleaded with them for almost 2 years to give me some information regarding availability of the AJ500RC, even corresponded via PM with this forum's "service representative".

She answered once, to find out what my question was, then never darkened my computer screen again, despite repeated efforts on my part.

Sorry to say it, but you're not gonna hear from Epiphone, man.......ain't gonna happen :-

Dugly :-s

Having owned both I would be happy you are getting the DR500M instead.

I had a DR500M and it was a great solid loud woody guitar. Saw a burst AJ500ME and thought would use at band pratice sometimes instead of the EJ160E.

Sold off the DR to help pay for the AJ. In less than 6 months the AJs back split open, and the top bowed behind the bridge. Yes it was in a humidifed room with my Gibson's and when not in a blow molded RoadRunner case with the included gray humidifier.

The guitar has been repaired and I just got it back two weeks ago now outside of warranty as I ordered on-line. The top came with a ding and I should have taken that as a sign to send it back then, but new gear lust you know.

Since mine cracked I have seen new ones at GC with top cracks.

The AJs in comparison to the DRs seem to be built and braced different. The AJs seem to weigh nothing and the DRs some heft to them. If you get a good AJ you get a good one, if not problems seem to develop, so not surprised to hear that model dropped.

Once any problems sorted out, the tone of the AJs A+, but good ones seem to be the luck of the draw.

Though I do like the AJ now, the back was repaired and the finish I had buffed out to a high gloss, if I could do it again I would have skipped on the AJ500M and just kept the DR500M and installed a PU of some kind.
