james_edward
if you don't want to hear from a guy who earns his living building and modding guitars....... thats ok. Good luck with your project. I'll just avoid this thread so as not to offend........ Another guy who makes his living building guitars, getting offended... gee, seen a few of them come and go... take it easy and it'll be fine... Not so subject to the DIYer vs. 'professional' clashes I shouldn't imagine. I think these guitar techs/luthiers sometimes get a little insecure when a DIYer encroaches on their territory. LSAR
My thoughts are this. If Epiphone thought a DC/LP would work as a bolt on' date=' with no neck support, it would already be made. The.Traffic.Lights
I'm not a master of Photoshop, but here's my addition to the idea: How bout leaving the body untouched, thus securing the neck pocket, and adding some more pickguard?
Sjael
How bout leaving the body untouched' date=' thus securing the neck pocket, and adding some more pickguard?[/quote']This is actually quite funny, because a mint condition white LP Special just came up on the local auctions, and it's in my price range, and most importantly my city, making it a very tempting platform. White is a color I am very fond of in Les Pauls, so I'd be more inclined to keep the finish intact than with, say, a wine red one, and so I've already (mentally) redesigned the pickguard to better work with the single cutaway. :- I *really* should be putting my money towards other pursuits, but you guys know how it is. Guess we'll find out on wednesday.
Legs
Sjael, I have a feeling that whatever you do wll be damn cool. Keep us informed on build. I'm about to start modifying a Hello Kitty Squire strat. As I told a doofbard while I was looking at a Casino yesterday, "Why did I have that". I responded,"Just to piss you off" ! A real man can play a Hello Kitty Guitar!... Women love it. Sjael
Tell me about it mate, I actually played about a third of a melodic doom metal (yes, yes, I know )gig on one of these: It's a long story. I have actually played around with a Hello Kitty strat too, and it wasn't a terrible guitar.
pohatu771
http://img190.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=sdc10001cz.jpg plywood body' date='bolt on neck....... That guitar has a neck extension, however. The fretboard stops but the wood keeps going, hidden under the pickguard. It has the same amount of support as a single-cut model.
lt7yosh
Like so? Or more like this? Man what id do to have that body, I've got pickups picked out for when I come across a setup like that! and those inlays are gorgeous :)

Perhaps I need to buy a blue ray disc recorder some day to free up some space on its hard drive. If only I'd just got paid....... Sjael
Well people, I've done a lot of pondering, and a lot of idea'ing. Here's the sitch: I have this Dirty Fingers 'bucker that's going unused because the top of it is munted. I had this great idea to put a cover over it in a LP Jr, so I figured I could take the same approach with a Specialcaster; Add in two hot, covered single coils, and you'd really be cooking with gas. Keeping the white finish of this potential LP Special intact would be a priority, so I'd likely go with the TOM/Stop-tail configuration already in place. Nom nom? I'll let you decide. And since I know you guys love my rawrsome art: And I'd probably refinish the headstock/neck in satin white. Because I like satin necks and it'd be pretty easy with a bolt-on. :)

wardog
would it be easier to get a kit. you would be able to fill the cavities you do not need and then route out for your configuation. it sounds like you have the equipment to paint and finish. it would be a true custom build. Guess this project will now fade into obscurity again until the next one comes up. :- Although i could grab one of these Pitch Black LP Jrs and mod that...
