Here's a thing I do sometimes when I can't decide. - Snag a picture somewhere. Size it, print it out, cut it out with scissors and fix it to the original pickard. You'll get see it on the guitar without actually making any changings.

 

 

BTW, I like the idea - "aged" finish with the firestripe.

Hey Larry, sounds good to me, be sure to post pics. By the way, out here in California, a pickguard removal and replacement can cost as much as $100 and as little as $10 when done by a guitar repair or workshop, so shop around. They have to be careful removing, AND when they place it, they only get one chance.....lol.....hopefully they will do a good job, or if you do it, it works out well for you.....let's see those before and after pics...
