Stupid question thread

Try to keep this on topic. Ask the questions that you were always afraid of asking because you would get ridiculed for asking them.

Me first: What on earth is a "pancake body" Les Paul I always hear of?

Why is there such a debate over Norlin Era guitars? So much controversy on that subject

Norlin era - the mahogany part of the LP body is in two pieces, glued together like a couple pancakes stacked together. You can see the glue joint line running along the sides of the body. See below.

Debate - welp, it's well documented that the quality went down hill during those years, but there were still plenty of nice Gibbies made by Norlin.

An internal slab of Maple was used on some from what I understand.

That seems about right Neo, my friend's looked that way. Looked nice. Sounded nice, can't vouch either way for quality or value otherwise.

I could have boughten his for cheap way back then, 4 hundredish or so.

No, they had frets.

Very low, very thin frets.

See Duane V's new Goldtop Deluxe.

Some people liked it, and reviews extolled its virtues.

That's how the catch phrase was born.

I don't believe Gibson ever advertised it that way, but I may be wrong.

Different strokes for different folks.

What exactly is a Stinger, and why does nobody here ever talk about 'em?

I've seen 'em at LPF and MLP, seen the namesake paint on the headstock, so what's the big damned deal?

As far as I know, its just the paint on the back of the headstock

Looks cool I guess, but who the hell is looking at the back of your headstock?

Hmmmm....

Ya know, Kroeger is a talented songwriter.

But their songs are so.... well... cartoonish.

Leave all the bullsh!t effects out, quit writing for titty bars, and get back to rocking. [thumbup]

I've always liked "Breathe" and "Good Times Gone."

There ya go!

Tomorrow you need to find a good IPA, though, to achieve balance in the force....

Good suggestion AND a Star Wars reference....high five [thumbup]

Another serious question to Fred's thread. Regarding the Ibanez Tube Screamer. How is it possible that the original sounds of the old pedals cannot be recreated in the new ones? I don't use one and have never tried one but I read that a lot.
