WhiteSpruce
Hey i am wondering if anyone can point me out in the direction of a epiphone hollowbody. im looking to play stuff like the Last Shadow Puppets which require alot of effects which i have some and plan to get more as time goes on. im stuck on either the Dot , Sheraton, or Casino. I love all of them but cant decide. I know some people are going to say try them to what best fits you..... but places around here wont have them all so thats why im asking you guys for you experience. like i said lots of delay and fuzz. DennisMiller
Based on some information I heard in this forum, the Dot and the Sheraton have the same humbucking pickups. Under the circumstances, it might make sense to grab a Dot if humbuckers give you the sound you want. (I'm not familiar with the band you mentioned) The Casino, like the Sheraton, is a more expensive guitar, but it has P90 pickups. Those will have a more edgy tone to them. If you are going to use a lot of effects, humbuckers might give you the widest variety of options. Just my 2 cents worth and others familiar with the band might disagree. The Casino is also a hollowbody guitar. The Sheration is semihollow.

Yea im not to certain the casino is what im going for and the guitar they use is a Gibson 335 with humbuckers....but what would be the main differences between the sheraton and dot...besides the gold hardware. Like what about sound and size?
neilpanda
Definitely look at the sheraton or es 175. the es-175 is great for effects and that stuff. but I could do without the size. oh I miss the ES-

Fringe Lunatic
Dot and Sheraton are very similar - same size, same pickups, virtually identical sound. As close as you're gonna get to a real 335 at those price points.

Fringe Lunatic
If the bodies on the Dot and Sheraton don't have identical dimensions, they're pretty darn close. They fit in the same case, if that helps. The Sheraton necks (at least the older 5-piece ones) are usually a tad thinner than the Dot.
Aymara
im looking to play stuff like the Last Shadow Puppets which require alot of effects.... Then I myself would use my Les Paul Tribute instead of a (semi-)hollow body, especially, when you want to perform live too. The Gibson 57 pickups are a big advantage in my opinion, as is the solid body too, when using many effects. You don't need to use the same guitar as this band ... a LP is also a pretty "classic" guitar model. Just my 2 cents ... but it's hard to discuss something, that's a matter of taste ;)
charlie brown
For your stated purposes, I'd go either the Dot or Sheraton. Only real differences are cosmetic. Sheri's, compared to Dot's, are like ES-355's are, compared to ES-335's. More "Bling," mostly. Both being Semi-hollow body, they'll feed back less, with "effects," than a full hollow body guitar (like the Casino) would...generally speaking, that is. Parabar
Charlie Brown's advice is mostly right about the Dot and Sheraton. From a functional standpoint, the most significant difference is the neck. As has been mentioned, Dot necks tend to be chunkier, and they are made of mahogany. Sheri necks tend to be slimmer and are made of 5-piece laminated maple, which makes them stiffer and have a slightly brighter tone. (That's slightly brighter, not a lot brighter). Casinos are great guitars, but their hollow construction makes them prone to feedback, and using lots of effects can emphasize this. (Although the Edge with U2 plays with lotsa effects and often plays a Casino onstage, with no apparent problems). A Dot or Sheri will sound and perform very similarly --- it's up to you whether the extra bucks for the Sheri's gold hardware and fancier appointments are worth it.
