I've been struggling with two areas of this solo since 1977...

There are two areas of this solo I just cant figure out, 00:22 to 00:25....And the last part, 00:48 to 00:53....... I just cant get it to sound right, or what the hell they are doing there. [confused]

Keep in mind my guitar is unplugged so it sounds a little funny. But if you can shed some light on these two areas, it sure would lift that 25 year monkey off my back..

Matt.... where are you

Wish I could help, I saw that solo played live last night.

A group of us went to see the cover band Abbey Road Live last night and it was great, we have seen them about 7 -8 times now.

Both of their guitar players are very talented.

I think you are close already

Evidently there is a tight fuzz OD going on

It's basically 3rds and 4ths a la Chuck Berry et al

I think Paul used an Esquire for that section.....

:-({|=

I've tried that, and there's something missing there [confused] .... and it sounds even worse when I'm playing over the rhythm part

Are you talking about the "tone" or the playing?

I've read that the Beatles used a Tonebender. A mk1 or mk1.5. That's kinda what it sounds like to me if it's the "tone" you're talking about.

If it's the playing, the first part sounds like 5th fret on the G and B strings with a little bend and then 7th fret on the D string in between. That's how I play it and it sounds right to me. Plus it's in the right spot for a lot of the other licks.

I just realized that when I play it I barre the G and B strings with my pointer finger and I get a little high E string in there too.

Sounds perfect man and it's definately a lick that they would play. I can record a little clip and send it to you if you want.

As for the second part.. That's a chord that I've never been able to figure out. I'm sure is painfully simple and obvious, but it has eluded me for years haha.

Edit: alright I think I've got it right. I just recorded a short clip of me playing it for you. PM me your email address and I'll send it to you so you can see if it sounds right or not (I can't upload clips to a hosting site from my iPhone). I won't mind if you think it's wrong haha. I just did it by ear.

Ahhh. Cool.

Wait. So was my suggestion right or have I been playing it wrong all this time? I couldn't really tell from the video.

Yeppers you were correct..... I was dancing around on the 10 and 12th fret [confused] ..... How I gravitated there is beyond my comprehension, now that I know where it's actually played.... [biggrin]

Very cool..

Isn't that the bass player from Dave Letterman's band..

I was lucky enough to get audience tickets when I was last in NY....the guests sucked, but Daves band were excellent..

The bass player was a real highlight..thanks for posting.. [thumbup]

Yep, That's Will Lee who plays with Paul Shafer on Dave. The guitarist who was playing the Casino is Jimmy Vivino, who plays with the Max Weinberg 7 (Conan).
