Any ideas for new guitars or guitar features?

Hi Everyone, about a two weeks ago, a thread was started that asked what reiusses you would like to see. I thought it was a great thread and playing off that theme somewhat, I'm asking what new features would you have like to see epiphone incorporate into their guitars, or new ideas for guitars, etc. Mine are as follows.

1) I really like the fact that the Les Paul line transitions from Epiphone to Gibson seemlessly. This seems to be accomplished with the introduction of many Epiphone Les Pauls equipped with Gibson humbuckers including burstbuckers and classic '57s. I would like to see this same philosphy to be applied to epiphone's archtops line up which is currently lacking both a seemless transition and a choice of offerings.

2) My second idea (which is admittedly unrealistic) is to create something along the lines of a 'artist line' (Ya I'm not sold on the name either, lol), which is kind of one means of bringing my first idea to life. In my mind the 'artist line' would have higher quality gibson electronics, but at the cost of the finishings. I think it would be cool to offer a line that actualy lacks any finish, allowing all the money to go into features that effect sound. A satin neck would be the only part of the guitar to have a finish. I know this idea is extreme but I have a few friends that are gigging musicians using semi-hollows and they loved the idea of being able to afford a guitar that sounds significanltly better at the cost of finishes. Some of them actually really liked the idea of personalizing the look of their guitar by paininting there bands name on, etc. While i'm discussing the idea of an 'artist line' in the context of archtops the idea could obviously apply to any line of guitars.

So those are my crazy ideas, I'd like to hear any ideas you guys have, or what you think about mine. Thanks.

There are Casinos out with Gibson pickups.......

there are other Epis out with Gibson pickups....

some of them are signatures.....

Tony Iommi SG

Jeff Waters V

Nick Valensi Riviera

[confused]

Very true, my mistake for not specifying Epiphone Archtops equipped with Gibson humbuckers. Both the John Lennon Casino and Nick Valensi Riviera have single coil Gibson pickups, and I beleive that production has just stopped on the Nick Valensi Riveria . Thanks for replying to the thread, and I'll fix my mistake.

As some of you are aware I am building guitars from scratch. I have a few ideas for new guitars.

I currently have 3 "New" body styles, just waiting for necks and finishing.

1. Similar to a Les Paul; semi-hollow, Flamed Maple, and Flamed Sycamore tops.

2. Similar to a Strat, but not really. One is a single solid piece of Flamed Maple, the other is a single solid piece of Mahogany, both beautifully grained.

3. Kind of a Tele style, but not really. A spruce core sandwiched by clear pine, 2 inches thick.

The Les Paul shaped bodies are drilled for Tele bridges, humbuckers, and bolt on necks, 25 1/2 inch scale.

The others are also drilled for Tele bridges except for the Flamed Maple, which I'm going to put a Bigsby and a roller bridge. This is also a bolt on, but it has the neck angle to allow for the bridge.

Some oft he bodies will accept humbuckers, others will have P-90's.

So to answer your question, I do have a few ideas.

I think a line of guitars where you can choose the details would be cool. For instance an SG, Les Paul 335 shape:

It's a great idea, but not sure Epi could pull it off - their manufacturing is mass production line and it takes about a year to get a new design to market.

However, Rondo will build you any of 6 Agile models to order with about a 6-month wait: http://www.rondomusi...ustomquote.html

I would love to see a line of Epiphones equipped with P-rail style pickups....Why do we have to have either single coils, or P90s, or humbuckers, when we could have one pickup that will do it all. And fits a standard humbucker rout to boot.

How about:

- 335 Dot with two dog ear P-90's. There's a lot of hard core P-90 fans out there.

- '52 Gold Top LP with trapeze tailpiece.

- '54 LP Custom (alnico staple and P-90).

- 355 with a Maestro vibrato (like Alex Lifeson's).

- SG Std (G-400) with the large batwing pickguard and a Maestro vibrato (ala Angus Young).

- Bring back the double cutaway LP Special and the Sorrento!

- Offer more colors and better flame on LP Std+'s. There are some gorgeous Gibson LP's; Epi should do the same.

I would like to see Epiphone build a version of the ES-137 and use their Probucker pups in them. I would most definitely buy one. [biggrin]

I'm repeating myself a bit from the previous tread, but; Oh yes! With the 175 seemingly out of production, Epiphone doesn't have a single florentine semi. Bring back the 137! New colors, new pups - new guitar, no?
